Maggie, to the best of my knowledge I have not openly criticized anyone on Airforums. Nor do I plan to do so now or in the future

I've read that quite a few internet forums are being targeted by cyber attacks. I guess the "bad guys" sign up and then, try to harvest information. It would be nice though, that if a post needs to be modified / deleted, the original poster was advised so that legitimate folks could learn if they'd made a mistake. I imagine that moderating a forum is a lot of work and, do appreciate the efforts by the moderators to keep the forums up, running and safe.

I wasn't suggesting that you did or would, it was just an open caution.

The mods names are in bold at the bottom of the Portal Page....click on a name, and send them a pm.

So when I commented "after 4000 posts that it wouldn't be necessary" was based on previous experience with other forums, nothing more.

I just checked the Contact Us button at the bottom and all it did was take me to the Portal. The last time I needed moderator assistance I posted in this forum and help arrived.

I believe I see what happened, not sure of the cause at this point, but try a test posting now with a another link to amazon, or the sales website of your choice.

Kevin, the post that got flagged didn't have a link. However one of my slightly earlier posts had this link to Amazon for the muffler.

The forum went through a recent upgrade and perhaps a google search or something like it was added. The kind of sniffer that looks for key words or text strings and presents those posts to the moderators for a quick look-see.

I have a lot of posts, and I've had a few deleted by the moderators

.... and in every case the original posting was written when I had at least a MILD case of cranial-rectal inversion. So they make me look like a kinder, gentler, more prudent and wiser person by editing or deleting the occasional off the cuff remark or post that MIGHT have been inspired by a bit too much hard cider. If you were moderated and passed, you are a better man than I Gunga Din.

Yes the linked post is the one I saw. Were you
able to post this one without any issues?

Yes, this one posted just fine.

I'm going to send this message and then send another one with the text I was trying to send in my original post. I'll post again after that if the "bad text" doesn't show up.

Good, then it sounds like we ID'd the issue. Now we'll look in to why this happened. My hunch is that this is a side effect of some recent upgrades. We are checking.

Let me know if you run into any other issue.

Wow, the same message I've been trying to post just got flagged again!

I'm going to send it one line at a time in separate messages to see if I can narrow down which line is causing the problem.

Ok, I sent three lines. Or should I say I tried to send three lines. The first one got flagged for moderator approval.

I'm going to break that line in two and see what happens

"Muffler" can also be a synonym for a sound "suppressor," -- commonly improperly called a "silencer" -- for firearms. There is no such thing as a silencer for a firearm, just as a muffler doesn't totally quieten engine noise. Any of these terms might be flagged by a new program with the "bugs" not worked out (with pesticide? ) FWIW

Carry On!

I doubt that's the reason. But it does remind me of the problems we had at work some years ago when the Government morality police started filtering for keywords on Government-owned computers. Worse than any parental controls app presently on the market.

A grease fitting is often called a "nipple"— not to mention the fact that many perfectly legitimate items such as extension cords have a male end and a female end, among other legitimate but suggestive terminology that might have offended a 1950s TV censor but no one thinks twice about today— and when the filter went into effect, suddenly we couldn't connect to our contractors' or suppliers' web pages.

Things eventually got better when they started filtering for context instead of just keywords. But sometimes we still had to specifically ask the IT department to add construction contractor websites to our whitelist so we could conduct electronic business without the censors blocking the sites.

Brad,

This smacks of conspiracy, and I believe I know what it's about. It's those "trailer" people. They don't have mufflers on their trailers, but we do have mufflers. So they're out to get us. I'm sure of it. Don't tell anyone about this until we figure out our next move. Shut off your computer when you're not using it, and keep your curtains drawn. Most importantly, keep your moho well hidden, because they're looking for us. We've got to stick together now more than ever before. Remember, keep this message on the down low.

Brad,

Sorry, I meant to send that as a private message. You'll be OK. Stay hidden.
