Map of members needed
How about a map of North America? With a little red dot signifying the location of each members city. I always wonder who is around. I think there is a mod for that.

There IS a map somewhere. Or there was. I remember a bunch of wussies being worried that someone would locate, rape & rob them by divining much info from their map pin. I assured them I had no time for that.

I have the code that I wrote myself to produce the map from a Google map and a database of addresses.
Not that big of a deal, but not trivial.
"I think there is a mod for that." Really?

Requires time and maintenance. You can only keep so much stuff up then you run out of time to keep up with everything. Question is.. is it worth it? Apparently not.

What might be more worth it is a map of rallyies.
Someone has to pay for this though.. one way or another..

I agree about the rallies. I'd like to know about any within a 2-state radius but quickly lose interest in pawing through that jumbled list.

There was a VB mod that pulled address data from the member database I ran across it a few years back.

It looks like this app maps lat/long values, not addresses.
I haven't messed with this in a while but a few years back, at least, a separate API was needed to translate addresses into lat/long values and all of the ones that I could find to do that were pay services.
Google maps has their own program that does the translation and at least back then it wasn't part of the map API.

Maps
I missed the original member map, but it would be fun to look at. I find if I am looking for forum members in my area, I can find that info by doing an advanced search in the members section. You can just fill in state and search. Then once you get that "report" there are some sorting capabilities. I like that because not only can I see who is in my area, but you can also tell when the last time they logged into the forums. Some members joined years ago and haven't stayed active.
I requested last year a map to show upcoming rallies. I think that would be great! I don't know how to write code or anything, but let me know how I can help - I'd be happy to be a part of it.

Rally Map
A rally map is a great idea. BMW motorcycle owners group has a map of all their US rallys. You can take a quick look and see what is reasonably close to you.

You can always do a search, based on location, of the member list to find out who is near you, or near a location you're going to. Go to the member list and do an advanced search and select the state or province. To get more specific, you could even type in the town.

There are several little widgets to add a member map and we have tried several. Each one has been pulled down after bugs were discovered that could not be resolved. One, as I recall, was actually a security hazard to the forum, opening the door for unwanted malicious scripts.
Periodically, we look for solutions and will continue but as pointed out, in the meantime the member list is sortable by location.

I've always wished for a map of members, too. Especially for courtesy parking searching. Yes, you can search by city, but what if you search for "pittsburgh" and get no results, but someone lives in Bethel Park (close to pittsburgh) but now you've missed that person because you've searched for pittsburgh. So, I end up searching by state, but then I have to put each city into google maps and find out if they are near my route or not. It would be a valuable resource, I think, to have such a map function and then be able to click on to map to get the user's name to come up. Anyone not wanting to be on the map could simply not enter their city in their user info.

Would also add to the interest if member's pin color could designate overnight courtesy parking.
