Magnetic Knife strip
I just installed a magnetic knife strip on the wall next to the cooktop. I saw a couple on YouTube who installed one in their Airstream and raved about it. Question for other who use the magnetic type strip. Do the knives “always” stay put while towing? Has anyone ever had one fall off? I have Trident knives, decent weight. I could see the weight of the knives making a difference.

Put them in the drawer while towing: pull them out and put them on the strip while camping, then stow them away again when going to tow again.

I wouldn't want them to jump off while towing & cause any damage to the counters, cabinets, appliances or floor below.

We did and they have not fallen off, we store them handle on top. Probably about 2000 miles since installing.

We use one, and leave the knives on while towing. Handle up, 2 strips close to each other so knives are held with 2 magnets. Never move.

Thousands of miles with knives on the strip, zero issues. It’s the best solution. Pacific North West to Kentucky and back, pre COVID. The west coast Washington to S Calif several times. I dont even think about it. Knives are a mixture of classic German steel and Japanese hand made.

Same here with our old 1985 Sovereign 25' -- all over the country -- left the knives on the magnetic holder, which was positioned so that the largest and heaviest knife's handle could rest on the counter while underway. Haven't installed one in the new FC20 but intend to.

If you mount magnetic strip at a 45 degree angle low enough on the wall so all your knife handles rest on counter and blades contact mag strip every knife will stay put. Been carrying a set of Henkels this way for 10 years. If knives are in a drawer the edges will be ruined unless you keep them in individual scabbards.

A magnetic knife strip or two would work but I prefer to keep them in the drawer for all sorts of reasons. It’s easy to find individual scabbards (and they aren’t a pain to use) but I made this for my knives:
It slides in the drawer horizontally, lifts out when needed, and has no bottom tray so that I can see the contents of the drawer.
As for knife strips, at home I use a bunch of these Mag-Bloks from Benchcrafted. They are made of wood so they do not damage knife edges. They are outstanding for home use; I have no idea how they would work with the rigors of road travel.

Our magnetic strips came from Ikea. Got the spice jars on a strip also, and they travel well there next to the knives. Frees up much needed space in the drawers for my Flamingo utensils....
