I see why you changed this, you cannot give too much karma. You had to change it because of that. Now it is easy give too much thanks. I feel very bad that I started this thread and killed karma. I hope my Kharma is not effected by killing karma. Sorry to all about this, hope you will forgive me.

Seriously, it's set very high. If you are hitting this limit on a regular basis, I'd ask you to review the posts you are giving Thanks to and make sure the content is worthy. We don't want this little feature to be abused and for some members to just dish out thanks for the sake of it or to try and game the system. If we find out members are doing this, then we will contact you and warn you about doing this. Please don't ruin the party for everyone else. A little thanks goes a long way, no need to be belligerent about it.
|
Belligerent thanks, now THERE is a fantastic notion.
Anyway, I think a lot of people have had some fun on this thread, and maybe a few people have aired some grievances on this thread, but after all of that, I'd like to post a SINCERE thanks to Andy and the moderators on this board. They do a fantastic job of moderating, occasionally policing, but most often simply HELPING the various denizens of this forum.
This really is a wonderful and unique place among the InterWebs.

regardless of what the 'give green' system is called, new folks will still have questions about it.
IF ne1 does a sticky 411 on the system.
and after covering the nuts and bolts...
THIS post by the teeeeen sista, IS without doubt,
the clearest expression of how to 'give' and enjoy the giving, that i've found searching here.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/258515-post18.html
what follows is a stylized and shortened version,
edited only to highlight the highlights (the underlined words are mine)...

I spend it gratuitously on lovely efforts in photos, great informative posts, very silly posts, and touching posts. To me, its sort of like a friendly nod or a laugh at a joke.
I surely don't expect anything in return, and honest to goodness I can't imagine having it as a goal to accumulate the points. I never did the green stamp/betty crocker points thing.
It is nice to get...because a kind word is always welcome and it makes a person feel good to know that a post had some use or meaning to someone.
The negative stuff, in my opinion is a bummer. I don't give it, and when I get it I feel bad that I offended someone...I think you can't make amends or settle things between people this way...

so when the instructions are written consider adding this 'user report' from tin' sista in the hood!
cheers

PC gone wild.
I can see that it may be easier for newbys, I disagree with the direction the thread went in apparently prompting the change.
Any chance that there was an attorney involved?

I have always enjoyed the story of Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. It's a classic of world literature and considered by many to contain the very definition of karma. I would highly recommend it those interested in understanding karma.
Interestingly, to me anyway, Arjuna's name means 'bright', 'shining', or 'silver.' A central part of the story is a conversation that takes place between Krishna and Arjuna on a battlefield just prior to the start of a war between two sides of Arjuna's royal family. On one side, the Pandavas who seek the return of their kingdom. And on the other, the Kauravas who refuse to honour the terms of the agreement.
Krishna becomes Arjuna's personal charioteer during the 18-day war. As the two armies fell into battle-formation and faced each other on the battlefield, Arjuna's heart grew heavy. He saw arrayed before him his own kinsfolk; the elders of his clan; and the very teacher who first taught him the art of archery.
Will it be worthwhile, he asked himself, to annihilate his own kindred for the sake of a kingdom? Arjuna sees his spirit faltering at this crucial juncture just as the war is about to begin; he resorts to Krishna for guidance. Responding to Arjuna's confusion, Krishna explains to Arjuna his duties as a prince and tells him about karma yoga.
Basically Krishna reveals to Arjuna the great secret of karma which is essentially that of unselfish action. Krishna tells Arjuana that one should willingly and unconditionally give up the fruits of ones actions, and therefore also give up the good consequences as well as the fear of the bad consequences of one's actions.
Note: I borrowed most of this from Wikipedia articles on Arjuna, Bhagavad Gita, and Karma Yoga.
