That ain't right. You got some karma last night, and it should have got to you by now. I wonder if someone is messin' with the system?

Karma is the "warm fuzzies" system.
Members can show their approval or disagreement with/of your post. Members rarely give out negative karma.
Here is how it works.
You earn karma power by:
- 1 point for each year of membership
- 1 point for each 250 posts
- 1 point for every 50 karma points you earn
The amount of karma you earn is based on the karma power the person giving you karma has.
Here are other rules
- you can only give 10 people karma per day
- you have to give 10 different people karma before you can give the same member karma again
- all members have 10 karma points by default
- If a member has less then 5 karma points their "karma gifts" do not count towards any other members until they get their karma back above 5.
- a member must post at least once before their "karma gifts" count toward other. So if a member has never posted, they can still leave karma but it wont have any effect on the user.

So many members have helped me here. I would love to give Karma to them. Tell me again, did you tell how to give it? I want everyone to know just how computer challanged I am. It's not that I don't have social graces, I just don't have brain cells. Yesterday I deleted all my pictures from my computer. I finally found them but could restore them only to "My Pictures" and not the Zoom Browser. Then I got the brillant idea of putting them on a 3 1/2 floppy or CD. I never got them to transfer; however, I now have 1,968 copies of my pictures in "My Pictures". Every time I try to delete them, they make new copies. This computer has a mind of its own and it's far out performing mine. Now, I guess you will all know why I've given no one Karma. Now I don't suppose anyone wants me to try. I may shut down this whole site.

To give Karma, just click on the "Give Karma" words at the bottom of the left box in some ones post. It is the bottom of the users information.
The pop up box will let you add comments if you want or you just klick "Add to reputation" button in the bottom of the pop up box. Done. You will have to make a post to have the points added to the person.

Hi, Janet!
Am I reading too much into that, or does it imply that one can lose karma? If so, I'll try to behave myself.

yes one can lose karma - but it doesn't happen very often. remember - you can view who gave you karma and bad karma usually begets bad karma. Here's a pic of the karma dialog box. silverranger... look very carefully... you might be surprised....

My current karma is around +400...
I have forgotten if this has been announced anywhere (I've been busy running from hurricanes lately), but we are considering allowing members to make their karma number public, if they want.

i have way more karma than is deserved, and i just picked up 2 doses from razzing terry! to his credit, one hit came from him.
so FYI, everybody, if you don't have any intelligent questions with which to bedazzle fellow forumites into crowning you with karma, well, try being a smartaleck instead.

Thanks for the in depth information about karma. Can you elaborate a little bit more on this statement:
The amount of karma you earn is based on the karma power the person giving you karma has.
Could you publish the breakdown of how much karma you get based on what a person has? For example:
1) If I have 5 karma points -- how many points am I giving someone when I give them karma?
2) How many points am I giving someone if I have 10 karma points?
3) How many points am I giving someone if I have 100 karma points?
4) How many points am I giving someone if I have ....
Does that make sense? I'm curious how the "math" works.
Also, does negative karma work the same way (i.e., the power of the negative karma is based on the power of the karma points I have)?

Wow...I think I get it!
I just checked my karma and being relatively new on the forums I only have four karma line items. On the other hand I have a total of 190 points so I guess that means that one or more of those four people who gave me karma are pretty strong in the karma points department!!!
Thank-you!

So, mods can see other people's karma? If so, I'm just curious...what is the highest karma quotient on the forum?
I aspire to be really, really good so want to know what competition I"m up against!

Maybe it's just me, I clicked on CP and did not see karma in the dropdown box. Is it hidden in one of the sub-titles? Maybe it's my settings?
Also, thanks for explaining "Karma". I have always wondered exactly how it worked, but didn't feel like asking.

Click on "User CP" at the top of your window. It is located in the blue stripe just to the right of the word "Portal". Then scroll down and you will see a section called..."Latest Reputation Received...".
I just gave you some good karma so you should my note to you next to my member name.
