Identity

Can you tell me what year this Land Yacht is? Nevever had so much trouble sending images. There down loaded but can't get them to send. The tag by the door is a Californian vin tag with DoH No. 29954. At the bottom of the tag.

See if there is another number by the door. The department of housing tag is usually a state requirement regarding human occupation. The other number will be the identification number/vintage #. Of course if you can add the photo of the tags or the actual trailer people can help.

If you use the airforum app it is just like attaching a photo in text or as an attachment.

There is another number above the first number. It is 187 on the tag.

Do you have a tag/label such as this on the curbside?

When figured out, posting pictures will narrow it down. Type of tail lights, number of end panel segments, type of windows and layout, and any other information to help ID. Unfortunately, my familiarity of Airstreams only goes up to about 1970. Good luck

EJ the tag you are describing is not your Airstream data plate. It sounds like its the state (CA) applied plate regarding department of housing or occupancy of a trailer.

It is possible your Airsrteam blue of silver data plate is missing or removed, that is not uncommon. On vintage models they were by the door and nowhere else. Sometimes there is a different number on the frame but that's not the make or model.

Because of that (as Bubba said) you will need to figure out how to post a picture. Folks here can figure out what you have based on images of curbside, streetwise and rears in addition to interiors. You can also measure from bumper to ball and advise how long it is. Your length will be close to the model number especially with a vintage.

You'll get the attaching a photo part figured out and then folks will chime in on what you have.

I have tried to post pictures but now I'm being told the file is two big. Is it possible I could email the pictures to you? I emailed them from my phone to Gmail and no issues.

If its not a rule or something can I just email the pictures to you? I'm being told now the files two big. its just four pictures. I emailed them from my phone to my self and there where no issues. You can upload them if you like till i finally have time to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've posted pictures many times but this time I don't know.

The serial number on the plate near door can be decoded using this decoder . . . if the Airstream was made between 1959 and 1980:

I sent a PM to ej110884 with my contact information. If he wants, he can send me the pictures and I will upload to this thread. Or, we can discuss and walk him through the process of uploading photos.

Thx Bubba sounds like it'll get figured out. I feel for folks when they're first trying to figure the forum out.

At various points in the past decades, some states replaced non-standard VIN tags with new ones to issue them a VIN which conformed with how they thought it should look. I've seen this with old bus conversions and some vintage cars. I wonder if your original tag was removed when the California tag was added, or perhaps the California tag was added because the original one was already gone.

Thanks Bubba that's fantastic! Yes that's the black department of housing tag I thought it was and it doesn't help.

66Overlander (and others) is going to be able to id this trailer based on the exterior accouterments and the style of that land yacht tag. That tag and placement of it will have only been used for certain years.

Identifying features are the number of rear panels, window placements (they dont look original), door in door, vent placement, slope of the rear.

I'm thinking late 50's (but I'm not at a desk top computer where I can look up archived images) but Joe has these things memorized and will inform us[emoji4].

I’m going to have to guess the first year for the Tradewind, 1960.

I appreciate your kind help Bubba L. My wife has all ways wanted a airstream and vintage makes it that much better. It's going to be a lot of fun for my wife and me doing a restoration. I hope someone out there can give us the year it was built. Thank you again.

EJ, glad Bubba was able to help with the photos. The Airstream historian, 66 Overlander, will finalize your ID for you.

Did you get a chance to measure from ball to bumper yet?

I agree with Bubba's time frame. May end up between 58 to 64. The end caps changed from 13 to 7 panel in 58ish and the door in door stopped in 64. The windows by the door should be jalousie but they've likely been changed. Ohio build I think.
