Land Yacht

No I have not measured it. The hich is messed up and I'm having it towed to my shop. I would say 16' to 18'. That's a good guess but not sure.

Hmm Ok, 16 to 18 would mean it's not a Tradewind. But looking at the 3 windows on the street side makes us think it's longer.

It will be fun either way.

It could be longer. It was surrounded by wild black berry's and thorns. There's a honey bee nest in a camper shell close by and it was close to a hundred degrees when I lifted it with jackes off the ground to put wheels on it. It has a single axle with drum brakes. So it could very well be longer. It has a little kinda egg shaped tub in the bath room at a angle on the side where the door is in the end of the trailer. It's on the opposite side of the toilet you can see in the posted picture if that helps. The tub is big enough to sit in probably for someone about 5' tall without bending there knees.

Yes single axel which you will likely need to replace and can be sourced.

Once you get it home and cleaned of gross things take lots of pictures before you start taking anything apart. Those pictures can be posted to the Forum under your trailer type once you know what it is. It gives folks historical references for when they have questions like hey what kind of trailer do I have :-).

It looks close to original inside aside from the painted cabinets and papered overhead cabinet sliders. The fiberglass tub sounds right.

No. It's going to be towed to my shop. I'll measure it then. It locked up on a hunting lease.

Bubba L the out side of the trailer does look like a Trade wind. Why does it have the plate that says Land Yacht by Airstream if it's a Tradewind?

Landyacht and International were package options whether Tradewind or Overlander or others.

The only numbers I've found sofar are 187 above 29954. It's the California Divison of Housing plate.

Hey Hitt, is it possible they placed the California Division of Housing plate over the Airstream ID plate and it’s still there?

This one looks just like the trailer in question, and it has the same Land Yacht logo:

https://vintageairstream.com/photo-a...radewind-24-2/

One question, does it have torsion axles or leaf springs? Leaf springs means 1960 or prior for sure.

Bubba, (and EJ) ref the DoH tag, I don't think so at least not originally. Of course who knows what all us owners do after that.

From what I can see the black DoH tag looks like it's in a spot I've regularly seen them in and it doesn't seem to be covering any prior used spots.

The link 62olnder posted looks very similar in layout, windows plus the Airstream tag is of similar style and era and also doesn't have it's serial number on it.

And disregard my former comment of Ohio build.

PS. Thanks 62Olndr for spotting that tag similarity and for the axel question.

The extior looks very close if not exact. The interior looks very similar. The cook stove in mine is in a different place. I don't remember leaf springs. But there could be but I don't think so. When I can get it home from the hunting lease I can find out. When did the torsion axel come about? The double opening entrance door stoped in 1964? So no later than1964?

EJ,

Yes the door in door feature was last used in 1964. The switch from leaf springs to torsion axels was in 1961.

The interior difference from one side to the other would have been based on whether it was built in the CA factory or Ohio. I forget the reason but they reversed the interior curbside and street side based on CA regulations.

In the late 50's early 60's there were also lots of exception's. There may be data or documentation that
indicates they only used certain build parts till 1960. But if one of the factories still had some parts there are instances of those part still being used. There were also some custom build trailers that are one of.

You are getting close!

That's great!

Well it sounds like a 24 ft Tradewind in Landyacht trim and very close to a 1960.

Some one at the hunting lease measured the trailer for me. But I don't think it has leaf springs. I believe it's a torsion bar. I'll know soon enough though. I think it will be towed to my shop tomorrow.

It’s possible it was retrofitted later….
