How many posts make a post?

This morning I had 200 posts, later I had 199. Where did it go? I checked all my posts and it showed 212 posts. I am confused, do some posts count as posts and some don't? BTW, this will be my 200 post, again. But really 213!

Actually, I clicked on the 'show all posts by azflycaster' link in your profile and it says it found 227! Weird. I'll see if I can puzzle it out.

Good question...

BTW, I show that you have 227 total posts too. I'm not sure why the differences, but I can tell you your post count may drop off if:

1) A duplicate post has been removed or
2) A offensive post has been deleted
3) Time-out on the 'show all posts' sort (see below)

Similarily, I have 3,400+ posts, but if you look at 'all posts by this member', only 500 will show up. All the other posts (501 & above) are still in the forums, they just don't show up in the sort. I'm not sure if these drop off after a certain date or number...I would say it's possible that it's number and it's 200 for members & 500 for admin/mods. Not sure...

Maybe Andy can answer this one...

Shari

InsideOut,
The 227 would make sense if I added the 212 I showed at the time plus the 15 threads I started.

I spoke to Organic Andy about this, and there is something about posts that were there, but are somewhere else, but are really posts, that don't show up. He said he could fix it, but if a thread was deleted or lost, your post count would go down. I think if it isn't going to cause the forum to go down in flames, we should probably leave it alone. There are other things that are more pressing, like continuing with the forum upgrades, etc.

I may be able to help.... as Shari mentioned earlier - your post count may change if a thread you posted to is deleted, or lost, or one of your posts is removed. Members often remove their own posts - most especially when the server hiccups and posts appear in duplicate. Your post count does not reset after a post is removed unless a (program) utility is run to update the count - hence the discrepancey... I think. I'm not sure how often the update is done.....

As to why we have post counts? The number of rivets each member has is dependant on the number of posts they've made - so they need to be tracked. It is a function of the software.

It is better to have numbers that are incorrect, than have no numbers and have them correct.

No, we sell water in the desert! It's a political subdivision of the State of Arizona.
