Forum update this week - SSL

This week you will see a small change in the address bar of your browser as we move to an all SSL platform. (more reading here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTPS)

For a long while now the forum login pages (where password info is passed) have been secure (httpS) but as noted by many, the rest of the site was not. We had delayed updating the entire site because there are thousands of links in posts to offsite images that are not https and those images might break (not display in posts). As those links recede in the rear-view mirror with the passage of time, we're hoping this will not be a major problem for forum readers. Look for the little lock icon in your browser address bar this week.

If you are an app user and run into trouble after the update, you may need to remove and reinstall the app.

It should be reverted, it is reforming all URLs and IMG tags from http to https

So now you can't link to anything not https and sites that are linked for images which are mostly http are being rewritten to https which most don't support.

There is no offer to store locally, so you've essentially reverted the entire site to text only as most have no access to https delivery systems that aren't pay to play.

Is that really the intent?

They should still be working. If you are an app user and having trouble, please uninstall the app, do a restart and then reload the app. Almost all images should be working.

If you are using an ipad with a regular browser, please restart your device.

If, after that you are still having trouble, point me to some examples where you see broken images so we can trouble shoot.

This was using Chrome on my laptop which is my main entry to this site.

Using the IMG and URL tags with a link that says

https:// mywebsite.com/images/xxxx.jpg

is being converted to:

httpS:// mywebsite.com/images/xxxx.jpg

The forum is ADDING the S every time....this is during the preview and final posting.

I was replying to my fast charger USB thread with images and I tried both the IMG and URL and every single time preview or submit is selected.....it auto appends the S and breaks every image and link that I manually typed.

Clearly I added spaces to my links above as to demonstrate what I'm discussing without the forum messing up the jist of the issue.

I just noticed that it did it to the post example I was trying to demostrate above........ any times it sees:

h-t-t-p://

it automatically is adding/converting it to:

h-t-t-p-s://

Good lord....really?

All the pics I share here are from my personal website which doesn't have or need an SSL certificate. That means that it will reject any image I share because I don't have an "s" in URL hotlink.

And as Robert said, the site is moving incredibly slow....it took almost 13 seconds for just the main forum page to load.
