The site seems quite slow at this time, and I received an error message that the server was down. I have cleaned cache, deleted history, and done a hard reboot of the Apple MacBook Pro laptop, running Firefox 73.0.1 (64-bit).

After rebooting, the AF site opened slowly, and seems better.

Is there something going on?

Yes, very slow to open a thread or going to a different page within a thread for example.

Went on two other unrelated forums and they are also very slow, but other websites are not. Very odd

So l am on a fully optioned new 16" MacBook Pro with latest MacOS fully patched and latest Safari on a fast cable modem (150 down and 30 up).

There are some new security "features" Apple implemented in both the latest OS and latest Safari that could helping slow the pooch.

Not an issue elsewhere.

So to connect takes 20-30 seconds (used to be virtually instant). to navigate anywhere or open something takes 5-10 seconds. Other forums seem "ok" now. Going away now for a while.

Have you deleted cookies and history, cleaned your Internet cache, and done a hard reboot of your device/computer?

Things are still back to normal here.

It's always been fine on chrome, only safari has been iffy. Usually a quick memory clean will help...but not today for some reason.
Note...help not fix. Chrome not used to post on AF.

Same here this afternoon, Bob, very sluggish loading multiple pages at the same time. In Firefox, I bookmark 10-12 current threads in one folder, and then choose "Open All In Tabs" . . . this usually is instantaneous +/, but not this afternoon.

Yes - as you noted the site was sluggish. We made some adjustments to speed up page loads

Is a DDOS attack or some other problem going on this morning?

The site seems very slow IMO.
