I don't have the trick with the iPad or iPhone yet, but I do know why it does it.
There is a universal image tag called EXIF that is encoded to the image. This tag is not a Mac, PC, or whatever exclusive tag, but it seems that many forums ignore it.
If you have a PC or Mac the work around is to import the photo into your Photo suite and then duplicate it to your desktop, thus the EXIF tag gets recoded in the process.
This has to do with images that are taken with a mobile device. A data tag (meta tag) is attached to the image denoting "up" but then the device auto rotates the image so that it always appears in the correct orientation depending on the device orientation. The forum cannot do that and so the images appear in the real orientation in which they were taken.
The work around for this is to open the image on the device, holding the device upright (portrait) and then resize it - even just a little, saving it with a new file name. That image should load correctly to the board.
