Annoying GM ad

Let me start by saying I think these forums are second to none and I really enjoy them.
I also realize that advertising is a necessary part of generating revenue for the continuation of these forums and it doesn't bother me.That is unless it affects the usability of the website.
The recent addition of the General Motors ad is one that is really annoying. The ad is placed towards the top of the page right under the blue tool bar(or whatever its called). This is the area that gives us access to the chat room, the search feature, quick links etc.
When the GM ad is running and you click on one of the features on the blue bar that has a drop down box,the box is hidden behind the ad and can't be accessed. I used to use a couple of these features several times during the day until this ad took over.
I'm not sure if this ad runs for everyone or for just members in Canada because part of the ad states 'The best coverage in Canada.'
I could certainly live with the ad if it doesn't affect any of the forum features.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with this ad?

only in Canada...

Must only be in the East, since I'm in BC and we're not seeing it here, or else maybe my anti-popup software might be blocking it.

Get rid of Flashplayer and ActiveX.
They allow sites to spam you in new and prenicious ways. Like irritating bubbles that float around your screen in front of whatever it is that you are trying to view. I went to some lengths to remove them from my browser and now have a cleaner less invasive page.
Some movie type files wont play any more but I'll forego them to have a less spammy browser. Another option is to use Firefox - same but different than Internet Explorer.

Are you using IE or another browser? I've taken the lead of another forum member here and now use Mozilla Firefox. Firefox makes you go to advanced search but that's the only bug I see for it on the Forum and it's much more stable than IE was....ever.

I use IE.I'm trying to first determine for sure if this is a situation unique to me.It appears it is.I have contemplated Firefox in the past and will check into it again. Thanks for the suggestion.

The newest version of IE has a pretty aggressive pop-up blocker, maybe you could download IE7, and enable that feature, it may help you.

Thanks Ultradog,
I have removed Flashplayer and ActiveX and the ad is gone but replaced by an empty white or black box where the ad was that still occassionally blocks the drop down boxes. It is an improvement though.Looks like Firefox will be the way to go.

Hi Az,

I keep IE on my quick launch and desktop next to the Mozilla Firefox..sometimes, if Mozilla experiences a problem and doesn't upload (very rarely), I'll go over to IE and try that..sometimes some websites/links don't open w/Mozilla, hence the backup w/IE.

codybear, I do the same IMO the best part about Mozilla is the search box for so many different sites... Firefox is not perfect but it doesn't seem to be as buggy as IE.

Hi Az,

Not to digress, but did you see the possible merger talks between Ford and GM?
