I can't use Mozilla for the forum because it won't allow me to post. The only other site that has presented a similar problem was realtor.com

go figure

Sounds like the menu is showing up behind the flash movie (assuming this ad is a flash movie). This is common with DHTML menus and flash and can be corrected with some programming changes (setting the Z order). Adjusting your browser will eliminate or supress the flash movie thereby making the menu visible again, but this is something Andy might want to know about so he can setup the menu to handle these types of ads.

Those ads are served by Google and the advertisers have the ability to geotarget. So indeed it might only be serving to Canada. Just so you know they can even target cities and states, so all of us see different ads all the time...

As for it getting in the way, I have had reports of this on other sites and contacted Google. I will contact them again and see if there is any way we can get that fixed...

There are also link on the left hand side of most of the pages called "quick links" and from there you should be able to get to all the same places. So please use those links if you are having problems for now...

I bagged IE several years ago in favor of Netscape, and then Firefox, and never looked back. It's customizeable, takes fewer resources, and I've never had any problems with it.

Thanks for all the responses.I will go with popular opinion and install Mozilla Firefox on the weekend and keep IE if needed.

Just realized this thread isn't about the dumb floating car ad on TV. Not really, but that ad is also very annoying.

Streamer23,
I much prefer Firefox, however keep IE on your machine. There have been a couple of sites where they wouldn't allow me to complete my transaction using FF. So I had to go back in with IE and do what I had to do

OK, while we're on the topic, no one else appears to have problems posting via Mozilla on the forums site? Or has anyone tinkered with it to solve similar problems?

summerkid:

I don't use Mozilla - the name of their earlier browser - I use the most recent vesion of Mozilla's latest browser, Firefox. My Firefox is mostly in default mode: whatever settings were there on download are there now. I've never had a browser problem posting to this web site [but experience ASF server problems faster and simpler than with IE ]. Occasionally I'll deactivate my pop up add blocker if I'm looking at a map that recommendeds doing that, but otherwise I don't much fiddle with Firefox as delivered. Try it, you'll like it ... and come on over to the light side!

I must agree... funny thing is every time that commercial is on.. my 3 year old always says.... 'daddy can we get one of those cars that flies?'....I told her maybe, but the Airstream doesn't fly..... she pondered that for a moment.....and said with a said face....Oh OK daddy I don't want one.

Hi,

We see the GM add in Manitoba.
However it doesn't appear to be blocking any of the access buttons.

Thanks for posting that Bob.Through your post and Andy's response I now at least know the ad originated from the forums and is not something unique to my PC.
As far as Andy's suggestion of using the quick links listed down the left of the screen, the ones I use all the time are not there.Mark forums read and today's posts are missing.
In trying to fix this myself yesterday and either block or remove the ad,I inadvertently adjusted my settings incorrectly and lost all internet for three hours. Computer geek I am not. It took a call to Symantic (Norton) in India (yes India) to fix the connectivity problem and return everything as it was .So I now have the ad on every forum screen and will just have to live with it and hope Andy can get it fixed sooner or later. It's a small price to pay to enjoy these forums.

I would not buy a GM product now......period.

I have Firefox too. It's just still 'Mozilla' to me. I'll start poking around in its innards & see whether I can locate the bug. Will be fun, especially if I succeed.

I'm in Canada, and yes I see the GM ad.

Hey it must have worked cuz I just bought a Yukon a few weeks ago!

I don't mind the ads, at least they are relevent to this site. I run a few forums myself, and know that it is not easy to run a site without revenues.

As for Mozilla? I used to use Netscape, tried Firefox. The problem is they are just not great at properly formatting many websites. Any that I have worked on required a lot of extra fiddling to keep Mozilla browser happy... uuugh. Firefox kept needing additional plugins to do simple things as well... na.. IE will do thanks

Then again I realize a lot of people use Firefox these days! To each his own.

Cheers

That add is showing up on mine in Ontario. Blocks everything across the top.
