AirFourms App Never Works Anymore
Hi, The AirForums App on my Android phone has not worked for quite a while. I don't check daily, but it probably has not worked for weeks. I always assumed it would come back, but it never does. Is there a known problem with the App? Here is a screenshot of the message I always get

The App is dead, discontinued, defunct, disconnected…no more. Sad.

While the old app is in fact defunct, the mobile-browser UI has been upgraded significantly from what it was when the app was deployed. There are a few things which take a moment to find because the smaller vertically-oriented screen moves some things a scroll or two down the page that are available at the top of the computer-browser UI (New posts in subscribed threads, for example, shows up a screen or so down from the top of the UserCP page... it's completely invisible on my phone until I scroll down, and I missed it terribly for the day or so it took me to find it.)

I appreciate the reply, but still hate the AirForums website navigated on my phone. I will not quit AirForums, but will likely not participate as much because I will tend to only visit using my computer which was always preferable because of the full sized screen and full sized keyboard, but the loss of the app just makes those benefits more obvious. I understand there was effort to maintain an app, likely various versions for Android vs iphones, but fear the loss of the app will result in some level of loss of participation.

I hate using my iphone or ipad because all the “ads” make it virtually useless

Forum Works Here
Apple version works fine. No problems here. Pop up advertisements are a serious nuisance, but the app works.

That's just the mobile version on the website in your phone's browser.
There used to be a AirForums application that is no longer in use that had less intrusive advertising

This site is running vBulletin Version 3.8.8 Beta 1 which appears to be almost 10 years old. The vB website shows version 6 is the latest. I would think there have been significant improvements.

If you are using Safari, in the address bar area tap AA and then Request Desktop Website. That will make it look just like it does on your computer. Dont know Android, but bet they have similar. Hope it helps.

I Was Wrong :(
Well, hit me in the head with a stick and paddle me until I’m red. Jeffb831 is absolutely correct. That is a webpage I’m displaying in my picture. I actually tried opening my Forums. It wouldn’t let me in to see any content. DELETED!
Thanks Forums manager. You could have emailed everyone and said you were going web-based only.

A : There's a sticky at the top of this section from back in September:
https://www.airforums.com/forums/f13...es-247238.html
B : I did get an email. Several, actually. I get emails from the forum daily.
I really appreciate all that Janet and the others do here behind-the-scenes.

Social Knowlege, LLC appears to run dozens of forums (including this one), and spot checking a handful, it would seem that many are on the same version. I'm no forum operator, but my guess is if you are that invested, it's possible that there are several modifications applied and upgrades in version could possibly break them? One of those if it ain't broke, don't fix it?

It’s passed on! This app is no more! It has ceased to be! it’s expired and gone to meet it’s maker! it’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! It’s electronic processes are now history! it’s off the twig! it’s kicked the bucket, it’s shuffled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-APP!!

You nailed it. I used to own/run a large forum and have been admin on several others, on vbulletin, Xenforo, phpbb, etc.
This place is still running on vBulletin 3 which is REALLY OLD.
For reference, vBulletin 5 was released in 2012.
The way the companies operate that buy up functioning forums is they migrate the site to their platform of choice then do the minimum required to maximize profit while keeping a few key admins on to help moderate. Some of the companies do it well, others do not.
I had multiple companies try to buy my site over the 15-16 years I ran it but eventually turned it over to a couple of my admins and they still run it today.

The app was discontinued as noted, but the good news is that the forum software is headed for a substantial upgrade to Xenforo which is entirely mobile-friendly. ETA on conversion is not yet set, but we will post up as soon as there is a firm date.

Right. That totally makes sense but when people start asking about functionality then it might be due to how old the system is. Newer software has newer features, and problems. ;-)

Right, well, we'd better replace it then!
I don't think the mobile site is a slug, but the one problem I've had with the it is that I can't get it to remember my last viewed reply. Clicking on the post title goes to the OP, clicking the arrow goes to the most recent reply. On the full site, I get linked to my last read reply, which is a nice convenience. Maybe I'm missing something.

That's good to hear. Xenforo is great work work with on the backend and the fluid themes that automatically scale and adapt to the end-user's resolution work really well.
