Advertising on the Forum

Why are the administrators allowing advertising within the body of individual posts? This is an offensive practice and detracts from the forum.

Good Question, are you a "Supporting Member"?

Why is this important? Whether or not you are a supporting member has nothing to do with what was asked. A very good question, by the way.

I would suppose that the ads pay for the site.

I do find the density on the screen challenging with a touch screen device as I am constantly unintentionally linking to other sites when just trying to scroll down the page.
But no, I'm not a supporting member, do you suppose they get less clutter on their screens?

Cheers Richard

I only see ads on the right side not in the body of the posts. Maybe by being logged in or not has something to do with this. Would be being a supporting member matter? Peace, jim

You should only see ads within posts if you're not logged in. Supporting members have the option of suppressing more ads because they're paying to support the site, but no registered, logged-in users should see ads within a post (you may still see some between posts.)

If your touch-screen device is an iOS or Android device, you might consider using the app instead of a browser.

Help me if I am wrong but the OP was asking about actual posts members make where they put something up for sale. I don't think it was a question regarding the pop up ads that we all see.

There is no reference to the classifieds.

As David alludes, the ads pop-up in posts when you are not logged on.

Adding to Kevin's comment... if in fact the OP is seeing forum members advertising products or services for sale outside the Classifieds or the Commercial Listings subforum, if you see such activity please click the Report button on that post. Commercial members are allowed to answer direct questions inline with regular threads if they're asked, but sales solicitations are limited to the Commercial Listings subforum for commercial members, and the Classifieds for any member (where appropriate.)

I almost wondered if he meant links within signatures, but the guidelines allow it for supporting members and commercial members: http://www.airforums.com/forums/misc...ork&page=rules

I usually only see one ad inline with the posts after the original post, and of course a smattering of ads on the right hand side. I don't find any of it objectionable but then I use a laptop and not a phone or pad so my screen is larger.

I use Ubuntu operating system with Adblock Plus. Works great for weeding out those ads.

Because a Supporting Member pays an annual fee for certain benefits. Since I am a Supporting Member and don't have ads in the body of messages I was thinking maybe this is one of the benefits of a Supporting Member.

Or maybe it is because I have Ad Block with Firefox and the ads or blocked.

Hi, I am now seeing adds blocking the first post on a page and the same add blocking "Recent Discussions" and no "X" to remove or close them.

As Kevin pointed out, if you log in, the popups will go away.

And registering in order to log in carries no fees.
