Is that high SS bulkhead mounted piece of hardware, the hanger for the bunk bed option? Jerry

Hardware for Caravel Bunk Bed Option

Hi, Jerry, yes it is. I also have the rest of the original hardware pieces for the bunk bed option. (See attached). As yet, I have not been able to source one, but would like to add it to the Floterior! Last fall I used the SS bulkhead hardware as a place to hang a plant; but with the new light shelf, I think a slightly different approach may be warranted.

Congrats on the Chiefs victory!

Outdoor Shower Set-Up

The hose i got from my local plumbing supplier... It's two high quality metal Delta hoses hooked together.. Ends up being about 12 feet long.
The shower head, not seen in picture is also the original.
The box for it is aluminum & that i made.
Glad you liked it & i hope my info helps you.
Excellent work, Dingo Girl! I wondered how the two hoses were attached together as having a 12-foot hose would be great, especially when my dog decides to go "exploring."

Hollie- the pic of the galley that I posted on David's thread had that option, I think I've got a pic from the '68 Globetrotter that shows the folding bunk bed. I was looking on the options list, and your original owner coughed up about $37 for that place to sleep a pre-teen. I'll look though my browsing history on my office machine if it helps. LMK. Jerry

The plumbing shop sold me a threaded nipple the same color as the hose.
It all worked out.
Thanks for the compliment!

Sourcing the Caravel Bunk Bed Option

Thanks, Jerry, any info about potential sources for the bunk would be greatly appreciated. I do have the link to the pdf version of the "Optionals" catalogue for the 1966 Caravels. In fact, Flo was named in part after the model who posed next to the bunk bed -- showing how easy it was to make the bunk bed...while wearing heels, and sporting ironed capris pants and buttoned down shirt, and a meticulously coifed hairdo that can only be achieved with rollers...

The Vintage Airstream site has the original photo montage of the bunk bed option. http://vintageairstream.com/bunkbeds/ If I can't find one, maybe I could get DiscoStu to fabricate one for me!

Hollie- glad you take notice of the details. Mrs Flyboy always camps in her side zip ironed capri's. Sometime she slacks and just wears sandals, though. Jerry

Hi Hollie - I have a late 60’s bunk bed, like that pictured above, that I’m willing to part with. It came with my ‘68 Overlander. Let’s visit off line if you are interested in it. Brian

Why didn't Airstream show the fancy model trying to climb into the tiny small bunk bed with maybe 18" of head room? That would make a great you tube. It doesn't look easy to do.

I remember our 1958 Shasta trailer when I was a kid. It had a "bunk" bed over the double bed in back. It was just two rails with a canvas material between them, maybe like a cot would have. That was my assigned sleeping space.

I gotta build a bunk bed for my 75 Overlander for the grandkids.

David

I brought up the subject of resurrected fashion statements, and asked Mrs Flyboy if she thought stirrup pants would ever come back. I got the look that said it all. She's got Levi's bell-bottoms and those "you have to lay down to get them on" jeans. Me, I just run with a pocket protector and check my gas mileage with a slide rule.

Your box gets shipped tomorrow, we've had some or our youngsters in the office have to quarantine. Jerry

1966 Caravel Restoration

Yay!

Docflyboy, I’m not the only one that runs with a pocket protector full of stuff and remembers how to use a slide rule!!!

I still have the K&E Deci-Lon, orange leather scabbard, belt hook, and the book that came with it that I had in college in the 60s. (Yeah, I know, sad, get a life, etc. Heck, I still have my manual drafting tools from high school shop classes...)

Rich- sorry to hijack Hollie's thread, but when I read your response, guessed you were a ham and bet you don't hit the road without your Fluke meter. 73, Jerry K0ID

Yes, despite his ham status and pocket protector collection, Docflyboy has graciously packaged up a bundle of treasures harvested from his discarded Dometic refrig, so that Flo '66 might have more state of the art '68 refrigerator parts! No doubt these parts will ensure a perfectly chilled glass of wine...

Speaking of chilling...Flo had a rough night braving the Nor'easter that is still pummeling upstate New York. Bone-chilling winds, and about 16 or so inches of snow and counting...
