Airstream trailer weights

While trying to decide the weight of our trailer, I found the Airstream site...
http://www.airstream.com

A little deeper into the site at the faqs, there is a place where a pdf chart tells the respective weights of the trailers as well as the tongue weights. Our trailer weight is considerably heavier. Our trailer has all the awnings, but no food or water.

Thumbs up

excellent find, Frank.
I am moving this post to the resource forum and make it 'sticky'.
I also took the liberty to fix the broken link.

Airstream trailer weights

Greetings Frank!

The one thing to keep in mind when viewing the pdf list of empty weights on the Airstream site is that these are empty weights of the base model without any options or any fluids on board (propane, fresh water, waste water).

For instance, the empty weight listed for my '64 Overlander is 3,930 pounds with a hitch weight of 405 pounds. The actual empty weight of my trailer with all of its options is 4,700 pounds, and it tips the scales at 6,000 pounds (100 pounds more or less depending on length of trip). The options on my trailer include Zip Dee awnings (main and two window units), 40 pound Worthington Propane Tanks, Coleman rooftop air conditioner, and International trim package. Even when loaded most conservatively, my Overlander tips the scales at 5,560 pounds. The hitch weight when loaded for a vacation is in the neighborhood of 750 pounds. I have yet to find any mention of my Overlander's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating - - it isn't listed in the owner's manual nor can I find any placquard on the trailer listing this information - - unless it is what was inscribed on the plate that a previous owner ground down when refinishing the hitch.

I haven't weighed my Argosy yet, but I am relatively confident that it will be close to the factory listed empty weight as it doesn't have any options at this point. I will be watching its weight very carefully as its factory listed empty weight is 2,500 pounds with a Maximum Vehicle Weight Rating of 3,500 pounds - - maximum axle load of 3,000 pounds with 500 pounds on the hitch.

Kevin

Thanks for the reminder, but we have already taken our Bambi to a camper dealership to have it winterized by experts. We sure don't want to trust ourselves with something as important as that. When we're ready to go next spring we want all systems GO!

Airstream changed the location of the weight doc. Here's the current location. Are the early 80s model Airstreams really that light?
http://www.airstream.com/airstream/p.../weights-1.pdf

On a related topic, does anyone know the dry weight for an Argosy Minuet 6.7 and Minuet 7.3 meter?

Thanks.

Scott

Weighed my rig today.

29' Sovereign trailer = 6075# (5300#dry)
Hitch weight (EZ).... = 605 #
Total trailer............. = 6680#

Weight includes empty fresh water, gray, & black tanks. A/C, two awings, one full propane bottle, two batteries and everything we carry except approx 100# of food, misc such as flashlight, umbrella, shower kit, etc.

GMC 2500HD Ext Cab = 6310# / (6915# with hitch weight)
4X4, 300hp, short bed
liner, cover, full gas tank.

Hitch weight of 605# is higher than I expected. I plan to recheck my truck front vs. back height loaded. I think I need to go up one link on the equalizer bars which should move a few lbs to the front axle and a few to the trailer.

I can help with the weights listed in the 1979 Argosy factory literature for the Minuet series (part of the full-line catalog):

Minuet 20 Foot (6.0 Metre):

Dry Weight: 2,450 pounds
Hitch Weight: 395 pounds

Minuet 22 Foot (6.7 Metre):

Dry Weight: 2,725 pounds
Hitch Weight: 280 pounds

Minuet 24 Foot (7.3 Metre):

Dry Weight: 3,820 pounds
Hitch Weight: 510 pounds

My owner's manual for the '78 6.0 Metre Minuet goes into very minute detail regarding the weight that each option adds to the axle weight, the hitch weight, and the overall weight of the trailer. My 6.0 Metre Minuet is nearly maxxed out at 3, 100 pounds (loaded for a trip) with a hitch weight of 550 to 575 pounds (depending upon how full the front mounted water tank happens to be).
