New to me '63.......Globetrotter
Just purchase a '63 Globetrotter, our second Airstream. We're planning to restore/refurbish for the grown children to use. Not planning the project any time soon-it will need a whole new interior. Of course, we need to completely finish the Overlander first-that we only had 4 years!
Here's the first set of pictures.

A couple of more pictures. It did come with the original baby moon hub caps. Is there a replacement for this vertical furnance?

I would suggest that you check the axle out. From the photo, it appears shot.

Nice find Rick, wouldn't suppose I could beg enough for you to post a photo of what it looks like to the right of the toilet (towards street side) and how the black tank, closet etc mate up around the water heater? All that is missing on mine and I can't seem to find any photos of that area.
I'm sure you could retrofit any type of furnace you want, not likely with the same outlet. I know a guy locally that needs that outside round housing for the exhaust if you end up ripping it out let me know.

Thanks Andy,
I will replace it. I purchased my axles with brakes and 5 wheels for my '61 Overlander from you three years ago. Great service!! When the time comes to replace it, I'll get it from you guys.
This there a replacement furnace that fits like the original for this model?

Thanks Scott,
I have the Globetrotter parked at work. I'll be glad to post some pictures of the black tank area, but it will be after the weekend.

Not really. You will have to do some planning to use a new style furnace, along with some fabrication.

Scott,
Here's the pictures, hope they help. Just let me know if you need more pictures, such as, with the carpet removed.
To my surprise, the globetrotter came with several original documents on the refrigerator, water heater, stove/oven (which has been replaced), the fresh water tank, furnance, etc. I'll see if I can scan these documents and post them.

Nice find Rick, looks great. What's one more major renovation project???
Scott-- Steve aka theByamCaravanner is also renovating a '63 GT right now so you could ask him for pictures/advice as well. Though I think it looks pretty much the same as the pics Rick just posted.

Thanks Marcus,
You, me, and Airforums members call them renovation projects, but what do our wifes call them when they look out in the yard?

Thanks Rick. Yeah thats what I was thinking but thought it was odd, that little wedge between the toilet and the cabinet, did that show signs of having some type of top on it? good news here, just got a 1963 toilet with working valve, now just have to actually get back to work on it soon. few more weeks here. look forward to watching your progress.

Steve,
I'll look around the Globetrotter tomorrow to see if I can find a top. If there is one, I'll take a photo of it. The wedge is there because of the round water heater needing more space.
I see you need a fan motor & blade for your kitchen vent on your '63. On my '61 Overlander I purchased a fan motor for a roof vent from InlandRV and modified it. It works great (only on 12v). I still have my old motor (stamped AC/DC),but it doesn't work. Maybe all you need is a blade.

yeah we're hoping to restore the city/battery function on the switches but probably will stick with a DC motor and make sure the transformer I get is a DC one as well. Yeah still will need to find the correct fan blade, but it will be some time before I'm down to those details. Still have flooring to finish, insulation in the walls and finishing removing all the interior latex paint before I start on those details.

Scott, it does have a cover. Here's some more photos of that area. Can you see the hole in the cover so you can lift it off? Can you see the round water heater in the first picture?

cool, never seen the omni chest, not sure there was ever one in ours, at least off hand I don't remember seeing evidence anything was there, but I'd have to double check that.
Thanks a lot for the photos, I can better recreate that.

I've only seen the Omni Chest in 63s. Mine is in decent shape, though I'm not certain it's going back in. It was mounted on the wardrobe wall right next to the throne, and for some reason, to my eye, it seems to intrude into the space quite a bit visually. But then again, I'm fairly minimalist.

well it looks pretty easy to replicate. I'll do some investigating tomorrow. Wow 63 was certainly a unique year for that kinda of stuff.
