1961 safari land yacht?

I found AS in a friends backyard. He thinks it is a 1961. I know it is a Safari Landyacht. He is the original owner, I believe. Serial number is 221 471 -D. Basically no dents and few road miles. One window missing. Floor solid except by front door within a door. What year is this really and any estimate on price? Refrig gone and gaucho or dinette gone. Just a rough idea would be nice. Needs tires and I am sure an axle. Pictures not avail right now, I do not my wife to find out. Thanks, jim

Probably is a 1961 Safari with double beds built in Ohio.

Check this out, 1961 Safari - see if anything looks familar.

"Ohio was making older style Safari layouts still in 1961, recognized by the front dinette, 3 streetside windows, mid-beds and aft bath – a very open layout."

A lot of them had the pink or yellow appliances/fixtures which are pretty cool!

It appears that my '61 Safari was built the 24th trailer after yours. My serial # 221D495.
From what I understand (and I could be wrong) 22 is length, the 1 is for 1961, D is for double bed -- (T would be for 2 twin beds), and the 471 is the trailer # built that year. Mine has roadside shower/bath tub, curb side toilet. Mine came with a gaucho which I removed and replaced with a dinette. My bed was on the street side, over the fresh water tank and wheel well.
I paid $700 for mine about 6 or 7 years ago. All the interior wood was unusable, but the subfloor was good everywhere except a small spot inside the door.
PM me if you would like some photos or other information.
Sam

Samb, thanks for the info. This one is just the opposite of yours with a gaucho originally. Maybe I need to try and buy it. Jim.
