What are you wearing?

Wait... that sounds bad! I mean how do you handle not getting that black residue all over you? Diving mask or goggles? Cowboy style bandanna on your face?

I'm just curious how you've stayed comfortable while keeping self cleanup to a minimum through all these hours of polishing.

Looks great though! Subsequent polishings shouldn't take near as long to keep the shine up.

Polishing Cleanup

I use gloves and old clothes and then clean up many times throughout the day with handywipes. Turps also works. Have plenty of old rags handy! I can't wait until this job is done!

I tried the diving mask but it just didn't look right without the flippers which made it difficult to stay on the ladder. I also tried the bandana but forgot to take it off when I went to the 7 eleven for more beer. I lost 3 hours of productive time lying spread eagle in the parking lot.
No I'm not keeping clean. My wife was making me shower outside but that cost me another couple of hours when the neighbors called the police. Now I shower in the AS. I figure that's the very least it owes me for all the work I'm doing on her.
The score to date: 2 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of deck shoes, 5 t-shirts, 6 doz. rags, 3 packs of diapers (2 for polishing) and one bail bondsman.

The tanks have to be polished, too, no doubt about it! Great shine!

Not helping me.....

To blazes with the Wall St. bailout mess....my trailer polishing is getting nowhere! I have been struggling for the past few weeks to 'top off' the polish job a PO started. We've had the Trade Wind for 2 1/2 years and the quick polish job he did has deteriorated some. Health problems kept me from re-doing it until now. Though the arthritis in my knees (hips ok..they are titainium) makes me a slow worker but I'm dedicated to get this done. Now my problem. The PO left the trailer after the initial F7 polish. It is shiny but not mirror. I had to finish the roof (was partly done). I just went with the F7 up there. I had difficulty with the front corners that had what looked like chip and seal (gravel) damage, no dents. Ended up sanding that with 600 and down sandpaper before using F7 then C. Of course all the 'chips' did not come out but the shine is stronger. My real frustration are the large flat (sides and rounded ends) areas. I cannot get an even shine. Except for the occassional scratches and stains, which took extra attention, I cannot get an even shine. Some areas are mirror and others'cloudy'. The cloudy doesn't lack for shine but the mirror look is more like an old mirror...no depth. I don't have a cyclo...yet but believe I am not ready for that until all these imperfections are eliminated. The cyclo I believe would enhance the unblemished shine that I finally arrive at and of course remove the swirls. Although I did meet a fellow who did his '75 Trade Wind entirely with a Harbor Frieght polisher. No swirls. So my expert friends your polish jobs in this thread are my goal. Have you read in anything that I have written that I am doing incorrectly?
Thanks,
Neil.

Hi Neil,
Sorry for the delayed responce but i've been traveling with work. You haven't run into anything i didn't. I ad the same cloudy issue and tried all different kinds of things, More Polish, less polish, different polish. The sides of the trailer were the worse. Ed (a page or two back ) told me to slow the rotory polisher down and try a lighter grade of polish. This took out a lot but I didn't get real results till I went with the Clyco. On the most clody spots I used the cyclo with terry cloth Bonnets and F7. Then went over the area with the Clyco and C. Finnaly pulling a heavy cotton T-shirt over the cyclo heads and using a small amount of S, most of the clouds and all of the swirls faded. I can't say this is the best way but it worked for me. Remember that we are building up the skin from scratch and it will take many times (maybe years) to get it even. Go Clyco!. I think you'll stay frustrared until you do. Don't forget to rub the area down (diaper) after each application as the polish builds up. Be sure to spur the wool bonnets often. They say you can wash them but decided against it after i spent 30 minutes cleaning out the wifes washer and listing to what a jerk I was for trying it. As far as the pits go, I have come to love mine. Dale
