We had things start to go back together yesterday and today. Nice to start to see things going back together instead of destruction.

Saturday I took down the inside part of the AC unit and found that the insulation around it was soaking wet. The AS has been inside the garage since late Nov. so I seems that once it gets wet it never dries out.

So We popped out one side of the ceiling panel the lenght of the Trailer and I removed all the insulation and replaced it with new. I found in the ceiling right outside the bath a purple wire and a white wire coiled up could these be for another light? See picture below

We have paneled the lower wall in the bath with FRP board, which is 100% waterproof. Since we are keeping nothing from the old bath we decided to start fresh instead of trying to work around the old stuff. The shower is going to be where the closet was.

This morning I insulated the lower walls around the entire trailer,
We got one wheel well cover back on and the installed the lower skin on the curbside. Tomorrow we'll get the streetside back together. And hopefully be able to install the wall between the bath and bedroom. Then we can figure out how big a shower we can get in the corner.

I went to Sherwin Williams and got their bonding primer and water based expoxy to paint the endcap in the bathroom. I looks really dingy next to the bright white FRP Board. So maybe tomorrow last thing I can get it primed.

We made out reservations for July, close to Mount Rushmore, yesterday the grandkids are starting to get excited, I guess reservations means we're really going to go!

I've added some pictures of what we did today.

Annette,
Very nice progress. It sure looks like you will be ready for Mount Rushmore.

Could the white wire be a coaxial antenna cable? The picture is a little fuzzy, but the terminal end sure looks like a coaxial TV cable fitting.

More progress,Yipee! We've gotten more of the interior re-installed, everyhting seems to line up pretty well with the old rivet holes. We are waiting for the furnace to arrive then we will install the cabinet for the sink.
We are going to have to do a little reconfiguring when we get to the fridge. We are replacing the small fridge with a larger one with a separate freezer. We will need to eliminate the tambour cabinet that had the towel bars in it.
Harold is still working on building a shower pan for the bath and when he get the plumbing all in he will figure out a cabinet for the sink.

Ordered an AC unit from Family RV in Florida and it arrive yesterday. Ordered furnace and tambour yesterday. Hopefully they will be here by early next week.

Harold installed the hotwater heater and put the UGLY white door on the outside. That's gotta go.

more picture below.

The purple wire should be power for a vent fan according to the manual. the white should be ground.

I looks like at the rate you are moving along on your trailer, you'll be done in a couple weeks. I'm jealous.

We have been pretty busy. First I want to list our expense for the month of March.

New AC low profile carrier $658.99

Misc stuff from Outofdoormart $48.35

Bathroom paint and primer $80.00

ABS Plumbing parts $65.00

Bathroom tile $35.00

FRB Board and glue $131.00

New Furnace $272.00

Tambour 2 sheets $163.00

12 tubes of Vulken $84.00

2 big boxes of rivets $80.00
Total for March __________
$1,614.34
Total brought forward $7,218.23
____________
total to date $8,932.57

So, we are getting close to our budget estimate of $10,000.00. The last big ticket item will be the tires. Which I think will be our April purchase, Harold and I both have birthdays in April so I'll buy him 2 and he'll buy me 2!
Keeping our fingers crossed that we come in close to budget.

Harold got the new refrigerator installed and I faced the front with tambour to match the cabinets. I've got the new doors installed in the sink base and the cabinet our the fridge.

I practically had to totally dismantled whole base to install the doors, I can see why others have ditched the tambour doors.

The tambour color actually matches the cabinets very well, it just shows lighter in the pictures not sure why.

Tomorrow Harold is back on furnace installation duty and I'll be working on more tambour doors. Our goal is to be mostly finished by May 1st. We'll see how close we come!

Mt Rushmore

When you go to Mt Rushmore, be sure to not miss the view that nearly everyone bypasses - the backside.

Seriously though, the Custer State Park in the area is a pretty good place to visit too.

Harold finshed installation of the furnace. Has installed the stove, under the sink plumbing, reinstalled the sink and counter top. He also has the gas lines hooked up from the stove and furnace and has then hanging out the bottom of the Airstream, needs to install the belly pan before he can do much more with the gas lines.

He also has the hot and cold water hooked up back as far as the bathroom, hooked up the hot water heater, and the drains and vents from the kitchen back to the bathroom.

He's started in installation of the new intellipower, this is a challenge for him because electical is not his strong suit. BUT he will figure it out and have it working right. Hope to finish that by Wednesday.

I've finsihed all the tambour doors, taken apart the stove vent and fan. sanded the inside of it and primed and painted the vent "stuff" and cleaned and tested the fan motor, Yeah! it works, then reinstalled it back into the overhead cabinet.

Cleaned and reinstalled the last bit of cabinets that are under the streetside window, just need to attach the table and I'm done with reinstalling all big stuff that we took out.

My sister gave us some laminate flooring that they had left over from a rental that they own. It light in color and I think will look good, beside that it was FREE!! That will be the last thing to go down, hopefully in a couple of weeks.

When you put that fuse panel in...put it where you can see it....and change the fuses when necessary. I can't tell you how griped I am at the location of my panel....same one you have there.

Water Fill Key

This is my very first post, just joined, so bear with me if you must. I purchased a 74' Tradewind Land Yacht and am just about to complete the renovation. I'm looking for a key for my water fill door latch. Any ideas out there?

Welcome from Arvada. You might want to start your own thread instead of attaching on to this one. Go to the forums interface and find the best subject to start a thread or go lower down and post in the Tradewnd section.
You will find more informatin then you you know what to do with. Again Welcome

Well. It's been a while since I've made an update. We have been very busy this last month! We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel!!
We tested the water system and none of it leaks,And nothing backs up in the shower. Yay!!!

We have almost got the interior 100% DONE. Only thing left to do is hang the rod for the shower curtain. We have installed the laminate flooring, and finished installing the front table and sideboard. All the curtains are hung, Harold says I'm starting the "nesting" part of this renovation. Bed and gaucho have new slipcovers.

I primed and painted in the bathroom with sherwin williams, bonding primer and expoy paint. Fixed all the window screens. Reinstalled the windows.

We got our new tires yesterday and they are all mounted and ready to put on.

All the outside running lights are now in working order, we bought all new ones but we're not going to put them on until after we strip the clear coat, but everything was tested and everyone of them work.

We have moved to the underbelly of this beast. New belly pan back to front, tomorrow that should be finished. New wiring for the electric brakes.
Harold say "this fun ship better be leaving soon," because he' getting sick of working on it. I know he'd rather be riding in one of this old cars or on his Harley.

I'm going to wait until we are finished and then post a final tally for the cost. This month it was new tires and a battery, and LOT of little misc. stuff, mostly rivits.

Well, we are going to make our deadline. We are hoping to take her out and do a camping trip close to home within the next couple of weeks and try everything out and fix anything that needs fixing, hoping it will be a short list!

Annette, it is looking great! I'm sincerely appreciative of this thread - if Harold is tiring of working on this, with all of your skills, space, and tools, that really puts doing a restro of a vintage unit into perspective for me.

Juliet would love to see a picture of the recovered gaucho, if you get the chance. I also can't wait to see it all polished (if your son is still lined up to do that) and ready to go.

Our last big project!

I can't believe it! We are almost DONE DONE DONE!!!!!! Harold, with our sons help took off the old Armstrong AC yesterday, scrapped off a ton of sealant, that was some tough stuff!, drilled out a million rivets. and replaced them with olympic rivets and vulkem. Took off the old antenna, which he said should have blown off on her ride home last Summer and patched that hole and the antenna wire hole.

Today they used the fork lift and got the new low profile Carrier up on the roof and installed. It was the last big thing that we had to do. It's all wired up and blowing cold air. Yippee! He also got all 3 of the fantastic fans that he installed last week wired in and working.

We are going to move the AS out of the shop this week end. Finish up the little things, like hanging a shower curtain, and installing a bathroom door. Then we are going to load her up with camping stuff and my new coleman XLE grill and take her camping! Not far but we want to try out all the new stuff, and make sure it all works or better yet see if we can figure out HOW it all works.

Well, the last couple of weeks have been busy ones. We have stripped the AS of her clear coat, had our propane tank recertified and new valves installed and I polished them real shiney! I have also started the polishing job of the awning arms since we have that all apart.

Harold has also taken apart the awning and is having some new parts made at the machine shop, since our awning is obsolete and nothing is available anymore, hope that is done by Monday or Tuesday.

Today Harold finished a little wiring on the furnace and lit if off and it works great. Also hooked up to shore power and tried the refrigerator on both gas and electric, both work, Stove and oven work, and so does the hot water heater. We are on a roll!

Then it was on to the shower curtain. I got a piece of the same stuff that the front window drapery carrier is made out of from Out of Doors Mart and we made a nifty shower curtain holder. I used 12 drapery carriers to hold the actual curtain, At first I tried shower curtain hooks but they looked funny so I went with little zip ties that I cut offf short after I ues then to attach the curtain to rod.

The rod itself curves out PAST the shower pan by about 10 inches. It gives you plenty of room in the shower, actually the 2 of us fit in it nicely. I attached velcro on both edges and onto the wall so that it fits tightly and the water can't get out.

Last project is to install the new awnings and get the old one repaired an on. Then we are going to go CAMPING!!!!!

We are going to be leaving on Friday to go with friends for 5 days up to Vermont to a Antique Car Show in Manchester. So when we get back on Tuesday we hope to finish up and go camping for next weekend. Can't wait.

You should be proud! (I found the pics from the bathroom on this thread - yeah!).

So, where's the pics of the bulldog enjoying the camping?

If your husband would like to make more parts for the awning so that I could repair mine, I'd happily buy them.

Well we are almost finished, just need to install the awnings. Our push off date for our trip with the grandkids is set for July 11th. As I'm writing this our oldest son John, has called from NH he,his wife and our youngest grandchild who is 3 have arrived at their campground with the AS. They have taken her on her maiden voyage.

This winter they asked if they could borrow it to take on their Vacation. Said sure, well the weather here has been so rainy that we haven't gotten to take her anywhere, it's even raining today. It's kinda like having a new car and someone else is enjoying the first ride our son, said every thing went smoothly. Only two problems, #1 Our tuck sucks gas like water.#2 we now only have 2 hubcabs! Harold told me when he put them on that they wouldn't stay that the clips were too rusty, BUT i insisted

Anyway Here is the last of the tally,
5 new tires 520.00
spare rim 75.00
Combination carbon monoxide and LP detector 120.00
smoke detector 10.00
Misc stuff 735.82
_______
Total $1,460.82

So add this to the last subtotal $8,932.57
___________
Final Total $10,403.39

SO, I guess we came pretty close to our budget of 10,000.00. So with the cost of the AS at $3.000.00 we have a total of 13,403.39 invested. I hope that the memories that we start to make with it are PRICELESS!!!!

See ya down the road,

Annette
