Well, I made the mistake of showing my wife remodels by Monza, Chatthayer, and Webspinner, so the demo started yesterday. We got some great ideas from the folks mentioned above, I'll be looking forward to updates from Monza and Chatthayer.

I don't now if there is a demand for 1972 parts, but if you're interested please let me know. Free if you want anything!! They will be going to the scrapyard soon.

Nice, get to work! Let's see how far you are now.

I ended up giving away all the appliances on Kijiji - The Craigslist of Canada.
Wife got sick of them sitting around, gone in about two hours after posting.

My progress is slowed, still hobbled...

Man, I hate to hear you're still in recovery mode. Don't rush it though, I had a tib/fib fracture years ago and there was nothing fun about that.

The appliances were in worse shape than I expected, so it was off to the scrapyard.

Day one of demolition and the fun has only started. The appliances were in really bad shape and although we weren't planning on using them, I thought I could give them away. I found a few surprises too...I'm gald I never hooked up to water.

I'm still feeling good about the overall structural integrity of the old girl. We'll see how we feel about that after we tear into the bathroom.

Wanna see filth, wait until you clean out the belly pan and the walls, if you dig into it that far.

My wife has been going crazy looking at different floor plans. I know it won't stay original. The restaurant booth style gaucho is definately going up front. The rest, including the rear bath is still anyone's guess. Honestly, I know it's going to be a lot of work, but I can't imagine not stripping it down the the wall studs/ribs. My main concern is the wiring...how badly the critters got to that.

...yeah, like Monza, I think that subfloor is looking really good. Just be certain that it is indeed captured underneath the shell walls...sometimes, people just lay new plywood over the old. But from what I see, if there needs some replacement of the subfloor, you might be able to either replace a single board (meaning no need for a shell-off) or you might be able to epoxy patch some smaller areas of rot.

Definitely drop the belly pan though...you will want to reveal any frame issues.

As for wiring, I lived with half of my AC plugs not working for many years...more than anything, that was proverbial final straw...and I knew I had to do something drastic with the whole thing...it becomes an issue of safety.

BTW, I pulled my appliances 4 years ago now...and they are sitting in shed. I have no intent on putting mine back in...except, perhaps, the furnace...though living where we live, I am strongly considering leaving it completely out.

I'm not looking forward to it, but I really think it needs to be rewired. The power inverter in the bathroom closet seems like a terrible idea too. We really haven't decided on the new floor plan. I'll be exploring all options, relying on all of you that have done this already.

And removing the bellypan to check the frame is a great idea. Thanks for that!

Any suggestions as to where we should start tearing things out?? I'll try to salvage whatever I can for anyone that might be interested.

Just start drilling out every rivet you see. There are some tricks with the toilet, so you'll want to be careful.

One of the things about demo is that if it is TRULY free, it will release easily. If its not releasing, then there's a hidden rivet or fastener somewhere. This is a rule of thumb that you should follow. Using force will break something...unless you really don't care. For the most part, I didn't.

Ya the bathroom, seems like a zillion rivets and then some pieces just don't let go... oops some got very bent. Makes me wonder why I'm saving them still...

So far, the kitchen area was in the worst shape. We tried to salvage, but at the end of the day some of the stuff was just not worth the effort. Thus, the sawzall in my wife's hand. I didn't realize how many people were looking for original parts until I started receiving the PM's. I should have known though, I have 2 Jeeps ('80 CJ-7 and '87 YJ) in mostly original condition.

We kinda feel the same way, since the plan is a complete update on the inside. We were more deliberate with the front gaucho, it came out fairly easy and intact.

Looks very familiar, 4 years ago.... since I didn't have much of the original interior in good shape, I just thought about functionality for our use. I used some of the original trim, and the sink and stove, and the fridge/pantry only.
Good job stripping it down. How far do you go? Most electrical was fine, as well as the interior walls.

Hey Steve,

We came to a stand still after Hurricane Harvey. No damage, but we have family that's been dealing with the aftermath. We should get back to it soon and I'm still think about rewiring. Time, money, and imagination....I've got plenty of 2 out of 3!
