WHAT's THIS FOR???

In our 59 Tradewind, we have a switch next to the control for the antenna, but we have NO IDEA what it is for..... Does anyone know??? The plug works, however we can't seem to figure out the switch there.... We're anticipating our next journey with our baby starting in Jan 09 through til the end of May....

I believe it is a switch for the air compressor. Do you have an air powered water system?

Yes, we do have an air powered water system... Don't know if there are any wires are connected or not. What would the switch do if it were wired? We will check it out.
Planning to get the Airstream in our son-in-law's shop to do a little work before we hit the road at the end of Jan... Getting the windows tinted, new shore receptacle installation, and we're ready to roll. Thanks again for the help.

My 58 Flying Cloud has a switch near here and it IS for the Grover air compressor directly below, on the floor at the streetside end of the water tank. If your tank has been replaced at some point, and a demand pump installed, then this is probably vestigial.

The function of the switch is so you can disable the compressor at night, so it doesn't wake up the guys passed out on the gaucho.

Thanks for the info. The switch does nothing when switched on, so it must be disconnected. The tank however IS original, and the system works great, of course, until the air pressure goes down, then we use a portable pump to pump it up. We'll check out to see if there is a compressor in there or not. Thanks again!!!!

If you still have the compressor, it will look like this one.

This switch is also located in my 1962 Flying Cloud. It is for the air compressor to pressurize the water system.

I had that switch in my '67 with a demand pump system, too. So it wasn't used just for pressurized systems.

Thumbs up

Thanks again.. Our pump doesn't look like that one, though. It's smaller and we haven't actually pulled it out yet. Too cold here now to work outside.. BRRRRR, so we're waiting to get it in the shop to have a look. Will advise how it goes. The help is unbelievable here. Tanks again.....

in mine it is for the water tank in the front. so if and when we need to be self contained i switch it on and it pressurizes the water tank. but we typically hook up to water and therefore never even need to use it.
