Tell me what you see

We're about to take delivery of our new to us tradewind. Found her an hour from the house. From what we can tell (we're no experts). The exterior, while filthy appears to be in very good shape. There is one dent on the upper curbside front panel, we hope to be able to "massage " out. All the window parts, screens etc minus some broken glass are there.

The inside is another story. The PO disassembled it in an aborted restoration effort. He assures us that all the original interior was there and still is, though piled up in heaps.

We're planning a shell off remodel. Gantry's are assembled and waiting. Im hoping to salvage the galley sink, stove and fridge if feasible. Bathroom is coming out.

Our hope is two years work and then permanently park this on some land we own in the white mountains. Not sure of the year of manufacture yet, though the gas cylinders appear original and are dated 1959.

Please any observations, opinions and advice are welcomed. Really looking forward to getting started

Well, it certainly is a project in the makings, but it sounds like you have calibrated your expectations and are up for the challenge. At a glance, I would guess that you have something built in the 60's, but you will know for sure when you "decode" the VIN.

Anyway, I think you are on the right track, remove the shell and then you will really know what you are up against in terms of floor and frame, and then build it back from there. The shell does look to be in good shape, and you are right, you might have pretty good luck rolling that dent out from the inside.

Greetings from a fellow '61 Tradewind owner a couple hours away. We were fortunate that our trailer was partially restored when we got it but the airforums were and are a great resource. I've also got a lot of help from listening to thevap.com, SafariTim's "Restoring a Dream" book, and lots of tips and advice from the New England Unit of the WBCCI.

Since your plan is to park the trailer those 40lbs tanks aren't as much of an issue but if you tow them full..that's a lot of potential tongue weight. We barely get through 2 30lb tanks a year and we camp through the fall.
