Thanks Brian,
I'm feeling pretty good about the way the frame and floor is coming together. Having the ability to adjust the cross members and allow for grey tanks sure makes things easier. This thing should be around for a long time!

Coosa and wheel wells

So I finally got my coosa blue water 26 installed. I was waiting on getting some wheel wells made before I could get the coosa installed.

I found a local sheet metal shop in down town KC that whipped them out in three days. Actually they made them in a day but three days to get them for me. They made them out of 14 gauge galvanized paintable steel, at least that is what they called it and they turned out really nice. I primed them with epoxy primer and will paint the underside black.

One thing I did when I put the coosa down was to pre drill for all the self tapping screws and then pulled up the sheets and vacuumed up all the metal shavings so they wouldn't sit on the frame and cause rust on my new frame. Hoping this will help with the rust reduction process.

New frame, new fancy subfloor, new wheel wells. It is all looking very robust indeed.

Where is the snow? We got 6" yesterday and more forecasted for Thursday. And it was 2f this morning. Made snow removal refreshing.

Snow

David we are suppose to get that snow on Thursday as well. All the computer models are forecasting 5 inches. I was hoping to get some more work done next weekend but it may have to wait. We shall see. I'm ready for spring!

Getting close to the belly pan

The waste tanks are in. The AC lines for the mini split are in. The insulation is in as well as any wiring that runs through the belly pan.

Looks really good. The mini line set should be well protected in the belly pan. When you get to it, update us on your mini split plans.

That frame assembly looks so good you will hate to cover it up with the shell. Maybe you could be the first with a "flat bed camper" so folks can google that neat frame.

Tank install, insulation install, and some plumbing install is much easier with just the frame. That is the way the Airstream factory does it. Me, I lay on my back and have stuff drop into my face.

Just a note that we got 15" of heavy wet snow Thursday and Friday. More is coming Monday they say. I'll send some your way. Moving snow from here to there is good exercise.

Bubba,
Will do on the AC install. I am planning on installing the interior handler in the wall between the kitchen and the bath up high. Going to build that wall around ten inches deep and install the handler inset so it's not a head banger when you lean over the kitchen counter. I think I got the same unit as you if I recall. LG 12,000 btu.

David,
It sure is easier to work on that thing upside down. Working on the belly pan this weekend and it's going really fast being able to drill down. I am taking a bit of you play book and installing the belly pan material perpendicular to the frame rails. We just missed the snow but did get a rainy day on Friday. Getting lucky this weekend though with sunshine and perfect temps. Hoping to have the belly pan done tomorrow.

Beautiful frame, with tanks, well insulated and with a floor that won’t rot- much better than new. My compliments on your design and fabrication.

Looking forward to seeing your mini split installation.

As Disco Stu would say, Thanks Peeps. Just a cumulative effort of all the work that has been done here on the forums by all the great builders ahead of me. Done with the belly pan, photos tomorrow.

Belly up

Some of the belly pics. I tried out my English wheel a bit. I'm not very good at it but it sure does help to have one for the corners.

Nice work on the corner pieces. Not easy to get such a nice tight fit.

A lot of us have trouble with the rear corner pieces on the 1960s trailers. I sure did. I used the old ones as patterns but still struggled. I used the tried and not effective "slit it" into tabs and then bend it up under the body. But hey, they are not on the sunny side of the trailer. They are located where the sun don't shine.

Your corners look as good as your frame. You will be disappointed when you flip your frame over and can't see your fine work anymore.

Thanks for the kind words!, David you are right, when I flipped it over it wasn't very cool looking any more. Funny how the bottom may just be the best thing I do on it!

Don’t bet on your belly pan corners being the best thing you do on it. I made a few the same way David did. Looked way less professional than yours. (Not saying David’s corners didn’t look good).

David's corners do not look good. Sheet metal work is something I don't have a lot of experience with.
