Christened my '63 Tradewind

A while back I started a thread about painting your name on the front coner of your vintage Airstream. This was a custom began by Wally Byam and quite common among Caravanners in the 1950's and early 60's.

Well my final project of my 1963 Tradewind restoration was to recreate my family's custom of "painting" our name on the trailer. I cheated slightly and had vinyl letters cut because I could not find a sign painter in my town.

I have attached a picture of me and my Dad posing in front of our 1959 Airstream (taken about 1961), and a picture of my 1963 Tradewind.

I have also included a before and after exterior picture.

Here is a streetside shot to show the original Bowen water heater vent that I had fabricated to fit the new Suburban water heater.

Your TW looks great! Any interior pic's? I also have a 63 TW and enjoy it. I think that the TW is a vary functional AS. I didn't have to much to do to mine when I got it, the PO kept it origional, and in vary good condition. Do you have the double or twin beds? I have twin. Good luck with your AS.

Now to recreate your dad's slacks!!! Neat photo and I bet some incredible memories - nice to recreate the history! In the picture, your names look painted. Good job!

I found some pics from my grandparents and they had their names & state on a separate sign that they'd post when they got to their destinations... I have considered the same. I also was able to get their WBCCI number. In one of those old pictures, my grandmom has on some really groovy boots - with shorts. It would be fun for me to get together a similar outfit and pose for a photo now!
