Bulkheads

Hey, I am just putting the new 3/4 flooring in and have the layout for the W/r ( curbside, to left of door. On the street side though we are hoping to have open, without replacing the " walls" or bulkheads... will this compromise or weaken the shell.... I'm thinking maybe, like a boat, the bulkheads add strength...
thanks for your thoughts. Mike

I have seen several Airstreams over the years used in business without bulkheads - but with built-ins such as cabinets, etc. Coffee wagons, etc.
Of course bulkheads add rigidity - the question is: how much is needed if any.
There is not a whole lots of cross stress on the half monocoque construction in these trailers - not a lot of side forces.
Just thoughts.

Don't sweat it, the bulkheads don't add any appreciable strength to the body. I towed mine over 3000 miles before I got around to adding any. Then I only added some because I wanted them.

The bulkheads/partitions don't provide any structural strength to the shell. Remove away!
