Hi Brad....
My partner ans I picked up our
1959 Tradewind on Friday. Ever since we found her the Sunday before I have been researching info, and found your thread, and have been waiting until she was in our possesion to join and post.
We are temporaily calling her our "Vintage Vixen" until she reveals her true name to us. Stats are as follows
DRUMROLL.....
California born 9-7-1958 approved for sale DoH No. 2073
Serial # 24D-0115 Yes I said that right...I believe she is your trailers sibling! (958)
Sold and Serviced at Berts Trailer Sales Michigan City , Indiana
Red Numbers 13967
We were told we are the "second Owner"
She was titled in Illinois in 1999 by Tony Shepherd...who was given the title by his mom, who was the original owner. A friend of his facilitated the sale to us.... It had been in his possesion for a few years, under a tree, hoping to someday restore her...
We think they forgot to winterize it...and the copper piping split(as we discovered yesterday when checking the lines) and they left it to the squirrel and mice...until some cash was needed....Enter Airstream Virgins (Mark and I) with a dream and some cold hard cash!
A few specs...
She has the double windows in front of the door...so that means couch I think...the only thing in the front is a cabinet..that has a fold out table(3sections) and the fresh water tank and pressure motor in it.
Kitchen is intact with the exception of the fridge, Brown princess stove and all burners and knobs and grates are present. The propane wall heater is intact also. Propane lamp and all overhead lights are there, vents are all present and all windows, screens and cranks also. One shade on the kitchen light has a broken corner, but the one over the wardrobe window and the bathroom are unbroken.
All cabinetry and hardware are unbroken and in working order, except one drawer handle is broken. We have the double bed, with a bunk over the top, and the cabinets and wardrobe opposit of them.
The bathroom is missing the toilet, but the sink and vanity, tub, shower and fixtures are there. With one BIG BONUS. The bathroom has the upgraded tankless water heater.
All the interior walls are original and unscarred ( although very dirty), except one small puncture where it apprears a back corner of a fridge hit.
The front door is original, and we have the door handle(now working thank to Mark) It does have the broken handle like most, but we have the piece and will repair that.
The Underbelly has a few scars and cuts...they will be repaired as we go. We have the original propane tanks, Battery box up front, Sway bars and hitch that goes with (I think they were an add on also) Some of the side lights are missing, but wiring is there. Original leaf springs, and by condition, I am going to bet wheels also.
I think thats it for now...and I promise to post pics as soon s I figure out how!
