I saw an ad on Craigslist for two airstreams and in the ad the gentleman said he was willing to barter. Long story short: I traded my 83 CJ7 that has a rebuilt motor but hasn't been runnin in a long time, a ranch hand bumper from my last truck and $500.

You have come to the right place to get help and ideas. There are some real pros here, not necessarily when they started, but by the time their restoration was completed, they had mastered a lot of new skills.

Oh btw, I know to say my truck is "overkill" is a bit of an understatement. After seeing what it weighs when its complete we will most likely pull it with my wife's durango r/t with a hemi.

I have been doing a LOT of reading and can say, I am a bit wary of what I am doing here. I don't have the time or resources to pull the shell. I can say I want to replace the coupler, add safety chains (i set up something temporarily for the 250mi trek home), replace the axles and brake assemblies, add the breakaway. 4 new tires as I blew one 40mi after pick up and the right two do not match the left in size. 225 on the right(12 yr old goodyears) and 205 on the left. I know I won't be the one to bring it back to its full glory, but i definitely want to leave it better than i started and enjoy some time with my wife and 3 small children(5,7,8). Maybe once they are older I could completely redo it.

Tongue in cheek, start now so it will done when they ARE older!

Whatever you guess the time and cost will be, write it down on a piece of paper and store it somewhere safe. Years from now, you will get a big smile at your innocence and lack of knowledge of the adventure ahead.

Another '63 on the Forum, COOL!
We have enjoyed rebuilding ours, still needs some stuff but it's camp-able.

I will keep up the photos, your thread got me in trouble. I stayed up way too late when I was supposed to be loading really early in the morning. Your build has me wanting to try and construct a dinette. All the plumbing looks to be pex. The fresh tank is under the bed in the back. Breaker box is new. Water pump is new. Water heater looks pretty new. Ac is new and runs. Dorm fridge is in the garage running (it's new), but I am looking for one that also runs on propane. Last pic is one of my last loads on my GN. Just so y'all understand why I drive that monster.

Although I did consider that my 12' flatbed would give me plenty of room to carry just about anything I wanted(and smooth out the ride). Maybe atvs? Golf cart? Tote of fresh water? Endless possibilities.
