new here with our 1963 Overlander
Hi everyone
This will be my first post. We just got an 1963 Overlander twin. getting to know the thing and trying to sort out what project I should start with. Probably the windows? that way I can have air get in when I redo the interior.
Anyway, I'll be doing a lot of reading after this post.

Welcome. It is important to have moving air inside while you’re working. Read a lot and get a battle plan with sequence of tasks. Take your time so you don’t skip over something. Good luck and ask the questions. Need pictures and your plans on what you think needs repairing. Don’t throw anything away, yet. Good luck, Bubba

Welcome Aboard 👍

x2 on keeping everything😳.
Glad we did on our 63' Safari, much easier to fabricate when you have the original stuff to pattern with.
Do you have the "jellosey" window? Keep everything for it...AMHIK🙄

Welcome. Congratulations on your new rig. Looking forward to seeing your progress. The windows are certainly as good a place to start as any.

Yes, I do have those windows , Robert. Two of them are cracked. It seems they are two kinds of pattern. The lower ones are a one piece sheet, while the glass panes in the upper window appear to be two pieces sandwiched. The tint has broken down in those pieces and someone had 'sealed' them together. (that's what it looks like anyway).
Restoring those windows is one of my projects. I want to retain them , if possible.

Thank you for the nice welcome. I'll try to post some photo's later. My wife made an account on this forum without knowing we both have joined the same forum . She wasn't able to post photo's, maybe there is a minimum post requirement.
this place got so much information. it's amazing ant my list keeps getting longer and longer.

I tried to upload some photo's earlier and wrote a narration, they didn't show . so I'll try to upload them again. If it works this time i'll edit the post and write the narration again.
I have no Idea why they are sideway now. They appear normal on my phone and on my computer before uploading them. Anyway I can edit that after uploading?
Anyway the top one is the window with the two panes sandwiched together per panel. Either someone siliconed them shut or the glue of the laminate seeped out and did the same thing effectively. I'll replace the sheets. Gotta see what the options are.

some raw inside footage
I uploaded some raw material of the the inside of the overlander to youtube. I'll cut and narrate it later
https://youtu.be/RZWH-dcIdio
It looks pretty decent. Although I have my work cut out for sure.

Looks like a great starting point for a nice trailer. A heads up, the stove is a 1 year only item and has some goofy features. The oven pilot is on, all the time, if the gas is on. Finding parts is like hens teeth. If you decide to replace it, and I wouldn't blame you if you did, offer it to other folks. There have been members here looking for them from time to time. Outside photos are a required thing!!!

Funny you mention the stove, It has never been used. That should fetch a few dollars , if I'd sell her.

Jalousie Window Question:
where can I get replacement Glass panes for the Jalousie Window? The top one seems to be laminated of two sheets , where the bottom one is solid. I think I would like to try the solid version.
But where to order?

Also on a side note. I found this glass ring that belongs in the license plate light in the kitchen drawer , Looks like it is broken. Is there a lead as to where to order a replacement?
Or a way to fabricate an acceptable solution?

I had my local glass company cut new pieces for my windows. Nuttin special, just matched the thickness. Vintage Trailer Supply has some parts for jalousie windows. My California built '63 has a different manufacturer for these windows, there isn't a crank to open them, just a 1/4 turn handle.

Ditto to what HiHo said about the jalousie window glass. You'll probably want tempered glass, but obviously the original ones weren't tempered and I haven't seen many reports of the deaths of small children & dogs from broken jalousie glass
I also got replacement parts & gaskets from Vintage Trailer Supply. It's definitely worth getting the Gasket Installation Hook Tool. You might as well open an account with them and fund it with your first born child, although they probably are overstocked on first born children....

I had a look at the vintage trailer site, there are many items I want to buy there. Like for instance the roof vent covers. I have two that I need to replace, They show them for later 60's models , not for 63. So I am not sure if they will be an easy fit.
The 1/4 turn handle sounds like what I have in mine.
I am also looking into the wiring to the AC unit. Is it on the same circuit as the batteries?
I have two wires that have been disconnected from the second breaker. If I connect them it will trip the breaker in my house, that feeds the power to the RV.

new here with our 1963 Overlander
Here are my handles. Also my windows have 7 smaller glass panes vs the more typical 5 pane version.

Welcome, folks! I have the same model, same year, although I'm doing a remodel, not a restoration. I found the windows to be so rewarding... other parts, not so much.
I just installed a replacement for the forward skylight, using a custom Maxim skylight. it looks great. Many of my questions have been answered by reading and rereading the blog of Sherrie, who restored a trailer named "Moonraker" . Find it here
http://63overlandermoonraker.blogspot.com/
She is here on the forums named Reinergirl. I ask myself daily "What would Sherrie do?"
Good luck. ... and let me know if you have a lead on replacing that glass for the license plate light!

Hi Kate
Do you have a univolt system in your airstream? I think to have read that our year didn't have one. I am trying to sort through some electrical oddities. I think I want to first get my airstream to work right before I update her. My forward skylight is damaged and I need to replace it. as well as the rearmost square skylight. Vintagetrailer was not much of help here, so I'll see if I can go with the company you suggested.
thanks for the link to that blog, I'll start reading there right now

Michael, I haven’t looked at the Hehr roof vents that VTS sells. I know that my 55 roof vent covers are interchangeable with my 66. As are the LeDeux Lifters. I noticed in your video the lifters are kinda hanging there. I’m guessing for the need of the Hehr vent covers. Careful with the lifters, they’re a pain. Great looking project and good luck, Bubba

A very nice upgrade is to put a fantastic vent in the rear hole. VTS sells a flat top version that still looks stock. The front vent, well, I'm still on the fence on that one. My '63 has an aftermarket plastic and the '61 has a shop made sheet metal. I'm in the process of extending a rear HEHR cover to fit the front and putting a dual pane insert into it for sun light.
I can also tell you that my '63 did not have a Univolt, a PO installed a sears car battery charger under the sink.
