Need Owners Manual

I was wondering if anyone knew of a source for an owners manual for a 1964 Overlander Double. I recently purchased mine but did it did not come with the manual. This would help with the restoration process.
Thanks!

They did not really have manuals in '64. It was a loose leaf folder of all the spec sheets and infrom from the appliance manufacturers. You may be able to look up the various appliances on the suppliers websites or find something over in the Vintage Airstream Club's archieve area.

Model year 1964 marked the first year that Airstream would offer an owners' manual. While rudimentary by modern standards, it does provide quite a bit historical data -- in '64, the new owner was provided with a copy of the owners' manual (about 65 pages) along with a manilla envelope containing manuals specific to appliances and options installed on/within the coach. It is unusual to run across one of the original manuals, but reproductions are available from two sources:

You can obtain copies of the original manuals from the Airstreamer store on the Airstream website:

Airstream :: Store

There isn't much difference between the Overlander Double and Overlander twin model owners' manuals. The only difference that I have been able to find is the page where the floorplan is shown -- that one page is unique to the manual. I don't know whether this was only with early production manuals or if this was true of all manuals published in '64.

The second soure is Secretarial Services -- the contact information is as follows:

A: The first owners manuals were published in 1964. Prior to that, the owner received a brown envelope containing parts lists and other helpful information on the accessories in his trailer. The VAC has started making these available in the Members Archive section. A service manual with instructions for performing service operations did not exist until 1972.
You can get photocopies of owners manual (1964+) and service manuals (1972-1986) from:

Helen Davis Secretarial Services
PO Box 484 Sidney, OH 45365
(937)492-8885

Prices are about $33 and $70 respectively. After 1986 the Owners Manuals included available service information.
Good luck with your Overlander!

Kevin

Overlander Manual '64

I have a 64 so email me for info. And by the way this is odd. I have a 64 Overlander that came with a manual. I started looking through the pages today and found a cover sheet that had info for a Bambi II written on it. It even has a serial no. but the picture on the booklet is that of a 64 Overlander, I wonder if Airstream used one manual for both trailers? Odd seeing the difference in size but they give tire sizes for both (thats what I was looking for). ?? And Im getting ready to sell this one so I guess Id better hang onto the manual but its mysterious how the info for the Bambi is in there. I also have a Bambi II and have that manual as well but this one has more info in it.

Copies Available

I have 2 copies already printed from my '64 Overlander. I printed them for a couple other newbies, but they never followed thru. I only asked for printing/mailing costs (about $9.00 total)

p.m. me if you're interested.

Scott,

I scanned and emailed you 2 or 3 pages. Did you receive them?

Service Manuals started with the 1972 model year. You can get a '71 Owners manual here:

https://store.airstream.com/product_...products_id=98

The best you can do for a Service Manual is order one for the 1972 model year and hope it is similar enough to be applicable:

https://store.airstream.com/product_...products_id=96

Failing that, you would need to assemble the manuals available for the different appliances used for that model year.

I was going through some old thread and came across yours. Don't know if you ever got an owners manual but this might help.

64 Overlander Owner's Manual

Oddly enough, my Overlander came with the owner's manual. Not much else, but it does have the manual, it's just not for the configuration of my trailer. Most of the pages are for the set up with a double bed and mine has twins, and a lot of the things in the diagrams aren't where the manual says they are.

Some of the chapters have two versions, one with the refrigerator on the door side and one with the refrigerator on the opposite wall.

Including the TOC, it's about 50 pages. It's better than nothing, but it isn't even close to a maintenance or repair guide.

Is there a place on the site that we can post such things?
