I'm looking at an Overlander to purchase as a project. The serial number is:
S-026420231
From what I've read so far, I understand it was made in California by the "S", and is an overlander by the "0" and it is 26' long...
the rest is unclear. I was hoping someone could direct me to help decode the rest... particlularly the year and sequence number.

I believe that the VIN decodes as follows:
S = California Plant of Manufacture
O = Land Yacht Trim Level
26 = Length in Feet (Overlander)
4 = Model year
1964
20231 -- sequential production number
My '64 Overlander's VIN is close to the one that you are considering. Mine has a production number of 20426. I have been told that the sequential production number has additional break-down, but I haven't discovered that part of the mystery.
Good luck with your investigation!
