dometic rm2604 frig blows breaker

restoring 1961 overlander.

just plugged in frig and it blew the breaker. I though maybe it was the trailer wiring, but when I ran the extension cord directly to the frig it blew the breaker again on my outside ground fault. Of course then I tried a plug inside my building and guess what? Hup... It blew that too! Dometic said rm2604 is approx 1988. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not near any RV centers and I'm not really in towable condition yet!

Hi Lisa,

You have a short to ground somewhere in the 120VAC side of the fridge wiring. Is you look in the back of the fridge (thru the lower outside panel) you will see the plug that goes into the wall outlet. Follow the wires into the board and be sure that the insulation is sound and that the 12oVAC wires are correctly plugged into the "AC" terminals. Then find the heating element, It is an 'L' shaped silver rod that should have the short end sticking out of the heater box. Follow the 2 wires down to the control board and unplug. Do a continuity test on the element (PM me if you don't know what this is) as that might be your problem.

This is just for starters. If both of these tests are OK, then we need to dig further.

Thanks Lew! It's pouring rain here today (again!!) So I'll have to wait till it lets up a little, I don't want to get water in there to compound my problem. Hopefully I'll be able to have a look today. I'll PM you tonight!!
