I don't think it was a factory install simply because of some goofy plumbing, I do believe it's an dealer - or very early owner - installed accessory. It gives of an almost silent hiss and a warm glow that shines off of the bare aluminum skin.

I tested it with a Coleman mantle, I need to get the larger proper one. Everyone's 1st question - 'Is it safe?', well...it's been there for about 50 years...
My 63 Overlander has one that appears to be original from the clean installation, but it's mounted on the bulkhead between the bedroom and streetside galley, to the left of the sink. It's not the type that has a glass shade though, it's not as pretty as yours.

We recognized it as a gas light. I remember those in our 19ft something-or-other SOB trailer when I was a teenager (boy, that'll date me!), but not as pretty as yours. We would use them when it was chilly outside as they give off heat too. If I ever come across a pretty one like yours, HiHo, I'll buy it!

I've got mine stored away as well. Identical but with a different globe.

They pop up on Ebay and vintage trailer ad sites from time to time. They were used on many brands of trailers in the 50s and 60s, so they're not completely uncommon.

I have seen a bunch of different styles of gas lamps on ebay, never one with that type of globe. The only problem with adding one is gettin a 1/4 copper line up there. Mine was, and still is, exposed on the wall.

I crawled on the wet cold ground today and finished the under-belly piping. I HATE working underneath! Sprayed everything with soapy water -no leaks - and proceeded to 'fire' everything up. Hot Water from the 1963 Bowen, refrigerator kicked off on the 4th click.

Happy Dance!

Oh, here is my leftovers from the $150 photo (It would have been $200 but I recycled most of the flare nuts from the original copper)

Continue to be amazed

Vernon

I continue to check back on your progress. I began reading your thread when I first learned that we were going to inherit our trailer. Your work is always exactly how it should be done. Thanks for continuing to document the process.

The propane light reminds me of the ones we had in our cabin in Canada. Just seeing the photo brought back many memories of reading or playing cards while the soft hiss was heard over your shoulder. Would love to add a similar fixture to my Excella just for memories sake.

I look forward to watching the final pieces come together.
Jon

Thanks for the feedback Jon, we are slowly working the details as they get fewer and smaller.

Today the Easter Bunny made an early delivery...4 new Marathons. I'm gonna go ahead a repack the bearings on the old axles - yes, I'm buying new axles but that's gotta wait a few months...

Are all the rims green? Or are they different pastels, like Easter Eggs?

This time of the year is about the only chance for polishing. I did a quick pass, it still needs a bunch of cyclo work but its a 50-50 job right now.

The lower fridge vent looked like crap so I hit it with the wheel and nuttin happened...I had forgotten to strip off the clear coat...

New tires are mounted, bearings greased...I'm down to a very short list of stuff.

Mrs HiHo has really gotta get back on the interior polishing! We have a Rally in 2 weeks...

Soooo, I was looking back at your kitchen upper cabinet, since Chris is working on ours, and we were trying to figure out depth.... You are every bit as much a master cabinet maker as Chris is, if not more, Vernon. Those curved cabinets and corners are works of art!

I copied the height of the original cabinet faces, 14". The resulting depth worked out to 16" based on the curve of the wall. Your milage may vary...

We finished the shower curtain, by 'We', I mean Mrs HiHo sewed on the hangers, I cut the top to match the curve of the roof. Of course I cut the curve so the pattern is on the INSIDE of the shower...

It looks really good from inside the shower...

So, you will need to buy another shower curtain that matches, cut a mirror image curve, stitch them together back to back, and Viola: beautiful shower curtain both inside and out. Problem solved!
OORRRR, flip the shower to the other side of the trailer! Whichever is easiest...

Hummm...thats a British conversion, right? Would I need to move the steering wheel and drive on the wrong side of the road?

I don't know. That might get a mite messy..... maybe if you drove backwards on the road, then the shower would be on the correct side. Would that help?

For $14, I think I'll just order another curtain...

Today we polished, waxed and installed a few new gadgets. A magnetic knife holder and a plexiglass back splash.

The propane tanks are better, I have no desire to get a mirror surface on them.

Mrs HiHo spent the day polishing off my fingerprints from the interior.

I added a coat of wax to the exterior so rain spots won't make me mad.

Everything was going good until the mudbugs arrived - after that, productivity went to zero.

Hi Vernon,

What wax do you use? We're looking for recommendations.

Is mudbug another name for crawfish? Never heard of mudbugs before.
