So now Colin will be working on your baby, Shelly? I sure hope so, and best wishes for the work going fast and easily!

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year Vivian! Been thinking of you! Yes Colin has started and is moving fast, I'm hopeful to get up to Vermont next week to see more progress! Trouble is, I have to take a ferry to get there and I HATE ferries.... especially in the winter when they shove the ice out of the way!!! See the progress in my thread http://www.airforums.com/forums/f109...ker-78136.html Hope you are well and haven't added to the menagerie?

Sorry the Hijack John!!!

Thanks, Kevin.

Two of us spent 4 hours each replumbing the old faucet. It's one of too few surviving parts in this trailer.

We probably wasted more value in time than that nice faucet would cost, but hopefully have it working. It was in the 20's here, so we didn't dare test it.

I'll let you know in a week if spending that much time was worth the effort versus buying one.

No problem, I still owe you.

BTW, we made it back to our granddaughter's today. Wish she wasn't sleeping when we met there. She's a doll! Hope you get to meet her someday.

We're out the door before 6AM tomorrow. Our best route is I-95 right through New York City. It saves us over an hour with no traffic, so we need an early start. Hope to get south of the snow/rain line of the next storm.

Happy New Year!

John

No drips, no runs, no errors!

We've stopped for the night off of 81 in Tennessee, much further north than we hoped, but the storm to the south looked like miserable driving. Since we will (barely) stay above freezing tonight, we hooked up the water system for the first time. No Leaks!

We also have two electrical circuits to allow heat to run and the stove is hooked up to make coffee in the morning.

Since we have no doors on the cabinets yet, everything is in boxes and milk cartons. Doors are finished, but hardware is just too hard to find tonight. Looks like they will go on in Austin.

We stopped for 2 days at Tom Sawyer's RV park in West Memphis, TN. Our traveling companions from New England were enroute to New Mexico and decided to hold to let the record snows pass. It was a good break, allowing us to organize, install some cabinet doors and just enjoy the river. We love watching the barge traffic on the river.

We managed to wash off the salt, letting most of the water dry before it froze again at night.

Thanks to modarch for introducing us to this spot. Sorry we missed you on the way.

We're settled in Austin after a stormy and chilly trip south. We arrived the day West Texas had significant snow. After tomorrow's heavy rains, the weather looks spectacular -- if you like sunny and 70's.

I'm happy that all the installation work that I did worked without leaks or sparks. We do have one significant equipment failure -- the RV500. After 3 frustrating hours on Sunday with a multimeter and the service manual from Precision Temp, I gave up on hot water. It took all morning to get someone on the phone, but the service guy was very good. We have a bad igniter board and they promised to get the replacement one to us by Wednesday. I wish I could have tested it up north, but didn't want to risk a freeze in our temporary galley setup.

If you run into a problem with the RV500, I don't recommend relying on the service manual alone. It's not really clear when you should have power to test points and when you shouldn't. The service guys are much better.

Thanks, Vernon.

Sorry we had to reroute around Mississippi on this trip, but I have a feeling that we'll catch up someday soon.

Now that we are somewhat settled, we'll look at plans for next steps. Two questions pop up right away:

-- What were the original sliding doors/covers on the overhead cabinets?

-- Have any Overlander restorers done anything up front besides a dinette?

Thanks in advance.

Mine were originally oak ply that matched the rest of the wood (delaminated...). The rearward doors had pushin latches to keep them from opening under braking. they are the two larger ones mid photo in this post.

Glad to hear that you made it safely! I've seen a nice mid-60s Overlander out at Grand Teton with a big U-shaped lounge/dinette in front. Looked nice. IIRC, Frank's Overlander has a couch up front with a pull-up table mounted on the street side wall.

But if we had such a trailer, we'd put in an L-shaped lounge that ran along the front and street side, similar to our current Safari. Our set-up, including a credenza that houses a little folding rolling table, is amazingly useful for us. Turns out that we seldom used the dinette in the Argosy, and this gives us open lounging room when we want it (which is most of the time.) I also find it easier to stow the rolling table than it was to fold the dinette top.

I can point you towards pics if you want.

Thanks, Tom. It was more of a challenging ride this year.

Please point me towards pics. We have weeks of planning ahead.

Since my trailer's in a storage warehouse (and I did a lousy job at getting pictures), this is from Colonial:

The table fits in the credenza behind the door with the push button release.

What a great idea.......I'm going to have to spend some time looking at newer trailers before I start my interior.
