'58 Traveler
Does anybody out there know how many 1958 Travelers were made that year in California, and is there a way to tell what number mine is off the assembly line?
Thanks in advance,
Ernie

Hi Ernie,
Typically the website to find your info is at:
http://www.vintageairstream.com/archives/index.html
But they show this model/yr but no info on it. I am sure others on the forum will be able to tell you. Also, the people at vintageairstream/Tom Patterson might be very interested in getting photos to update their archives.
Would help others if you post VIN/Serial Number which probably is a XXXX series I think.
Good Luck

Ernie:
The VAC does not have production totals for 1958 California trailers. But reported serial numbers suggest that at least 100 Calif. Travelers were made. 1958 Traveler serial numbers begin at 4000 and go up to at least 4080, then somewhere later shift format to 18 D 4XXX. The largest 4 digit seemingly consecutive ascending number that has been submitted to us is 18 D 4099, hence my guess that at least 100 Travelers were made in 1958. R.J. pictures 18 footer # 4105 on his web site mentioned below, but we don't know whether that Calif. built 18 footer is a "Traveler" per se or from another series of 18' Calif trailers (perhaps beginning at 41XX??). Wherever your trailer's serial number fits within the 4XXX serial should approximate its production sequence. Let us know. Thanks!

Thanks again guys;
The serial number on my trailer is 18-4093. Does that mean it was #93 out of 100 made? From what you tell me, mine is the highest number reported so far. My serial # does not have the "D" between the 18 and the XXXX. I bought my trailer gutted-out completly. It had shelves inside and was being used as storage and to distribute clothing, dishes, and food to the poor by the church I bought it from. I'm resurecting it to a camper trailer again but I'm not a purist, so the trailer will not be original design and therefore Tom Patterson might not be interested in pictures.
Thanks again,
Ernie

I believe it would have been the 9th 18-footer built in CA for the 1958 model year. it may have actually been built in late '57.
Post some pix to share...love to see it!

I thought I was alone out there, but I'm glad to hear somebody besides me has a '58 Traveler. Would be nice to see pictures of your trailer.

I just have a few of the very early ones in my personal photos on this site. I posted a couple pics of my personal fleet of vehicles, they might still be on the home page of this forum. I'll try to post them here...didn't work (too big) PM me and I will give you my email and I will send you some more recent pics. done quite a bit of work, all worth it though.

Grandpa has one
My grandpa has a '58 Traveler. The shell is pretty much immaculate but the inside is pretty much shot. He started to fix it up and it's on hold. He's got a 26' Overlander and a couple motorhomes he's playing with.
I've got my eye on the Traveler and want first dibbs on it. I can't afford a 75th edition Bambi so maybe I can fix up his 58 someday

The Traveller has been a very nice unit for me. Nice tow, Just the right amount of space without going overboard. I have done a bunch of work to the interior...it's ugly but I love it!!!
Scoop it up if you can Jim!
