A small rally is being planned for August at the Lava Beds National Monument. The Lava Beds N.M. is located in Northeastern California near the Oregon border. This is a very remote and uncrowded part of California even in the summer. The air, water and sky are crystal clear. The nighttime sky is truely awesome there. I saw the Space Station pass overhead last summer plus many shooting stars. Eagles Nest RV Park is delightful with full hookup grassy sites. The RV park is tucked away in a little valley on a ranch. The campground is wonderful because it's all grass. Camping on thick green grass is a luxury. The land around lava beds is beautiful and ranges from thick forest to juniper desert. Lots to do in the area but at the top of the list is the hundreds of caves open for exploring. I enjoyed hiking around Captain Jack's Stronghold where the Modoc War was fought. Make the rally part of a larger trip as this part of Oregon and California is uncrowded and beautiful, such as Crater Lake and Lassen National Parks.

Although this is a great way to see an area we've heard so much about, we're sorry we're not going to be able to attend the rally after all. Hope everyone has much fun! Janet and Terry
