Hello & Welcome:

This is the story of our 1972 AS Sovereign 31ft, we acquired in May 2008. We are the 3rd owners on record. Our AS was built at the Santa Fe Springs, CA plant; which has since closed. It was in pretty good condition when purchased. It still needs repairs and renovations as most do of this vintage.

Stay tuned and check back frequently to check on our progress, as we continue on our journey to “Infinity & Beyond”.

Happy Trailering !!!

Mary, Steve & Stephen

Vacation June/July 2008 Stop #1: Kingman, AZ

Posted 07-07-2009 at 01:49 AM by Maryw164

This trip, our 1st of many, was the best most relaxing vacation we’ve ever taken. Despite the learning curve and new challenges to deal with. We went to Durango, CO via Kingman, AZ, Holbrook, AZ; and then Flagstaff, AZ on the way back to homebase (San Dimas, CA). We managed to get back home with wanting to strangle one another, or file for divorce

Day one:
We camped at the KOA in Kingman, AZ. It was a pretty good clean park with fairly level sites. Our only problem was when we went to unhitch the truck, being the “newbie’s” to camping with a trailer; we neglected to properly install the wheel locks on the AS. As hubby Steve started to raise the AS off the ball (I was in the truck), because there were no locks on the trailer wheels it of course started to roll backward off the jack stand “OOPS” . Thankfully it didn’t roll far or bend the jack, although I think it popped a few rivets on the front end. After our initial shock, we picked our jaws up off the ground and devised a plan. Steve & Stephen stood on the rear bumper of our Excursion, while I stayed in the truck to attempt the re-hitch. With some gentle persuasion we managed to get the ball to slip back under the tongue of the AS. Yeah!!
Lesson learned: Have detailed stupid-proof camp set-up/takedown checklist to refer to for future destinations.

Thankfully the rest of our trip went along pretty well, without any major catastrophes.
We went to see the Route 66 museum which was quite interesting to learn about what our fellow travelers of the past had to endure when moving out west.

The recount of this trip has been delayed by about a years time. Stay tuned for more about the days to follow. I will post the rest as soon as I can.

Mary

It is quite unnerving when that happens. I was jacking mine up to work on it on the street in front of our house. I had to raise the street side to get to my valves and replace one. I had it pretty high up on some of the 'lego' blocks. As soon as I jacked the front up to clear the ball it slid away from the truck and down the blocks. It was sitting on the aluminum jack stand and remained on the jack stand after it slid about 3 feet! I had to sit down a bit after that.

I now put in wheel chocks every time, Rotochocks now.

    Have fun with your toy.
