BTW: Another advantage of the IC-705 is that you can ‘connect’ to it via *it’s own* Wi-Fi; no cables through the AS shell! PC software only, but a dedicated Surface Pro makes that convenient.

The way this works for me is that I put an Elecraft KXPA100 (has the tuner), a power-pole power supply, and the IC-705 together in a Pelican case punched with a couple of bulkhead BNCs and an AC socket (potentially almost waterproof)…. Potentially.

Obviously, provide ventilation (open case) when transmitting - and make sure the tuner is not inadvertently in ‘Bypass’ mode; it was trivially easy to inadvertently bump the mode button.

This is then put outside and plugged into the AS’s shore-power AC under the curbside awning. Antenna lead goes to the Buddipole… or, for VHF/UHF, to a rubber duck. Wi-Fi back to the PC inside the AS… as well as BlueTooth for the headset for analog modes.

Next: I’ll try to grab pure battery DC when not shore powered and/or to minimize inverter hash.
