Pulling out the carpet staples

Posted 07-23-2013 at 08:55 AM by janeinthemtns

I spent most of the day yesterday pulling out the carpet staples. Somebody really went nuts. I decided not to pull out the couch. I was thinking of putting different seating there, but with big dogs, I think the couch will create the most space. Also I'm pretty sure I'll be blanketing off the bedroom during the coldest winter months and we will all be sleeping around the heater in the living room.

I pulled out the ends of the couch and will cover them with something. The couch looks easy enough to remove to have it upholstered whenever I have an extra $1,000.

I found evidence of water damage along about 3' of curbside. I saw the little marks on the side of the vinyl way down by the floor when I bought the trailer. There is a soft spot in the fiber board along the wall about 2"x6". It does not go all the way through the floor and it has rained a lot lately, but it is dry. The little window just above that spot has condensation in it and the big window above it does not want to open and close easily. I think the problem is right there. There is nothing outside that looks wrong.

So far the staples have been my least favorite job with my face right down on that gross fiberboard for hours. Every chemical that has been dumped on that carpet for 28 years is in the fiberboard. It's mostly cleared out now after a week of closing all the windows up and letting it get over 100F in there for most of the day. Which means I haven't been able to do a lot of work in there yet.
