DAY 86 - Fri Apr 17
We awoke to another beautiful, sunny, windy day. We grabbed our coffees, and headed over to our Aunt's house in our pj's -- she was definitely surprised ! We told her we were staying at Moon River RV until Monday.
DAY 89 - Mon Apr 20
Packed and rolling by 9AM, heading North on AZ95 to Kingman, then I-40 East to Seligman. We stopped at Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-In for a bite, and were sad to learn that Mr. Delgadillo had passed away a few years ago. We met him on our last visit to Seligman, and he was quite the character with all his pranks on the customers. His son is running it now, and is also quite entertaining. Seligman is definitely the place for Rte 66 nostalgia -- well worth a look. We continued on Rte 66 for 17 miles then back on I-40 to Williams, then North to the Grand Canyon. We stopped at Bedrock City Campground for the night. We had electric and water only for $16. It is quite the place with a Bedrock City that you can tour for a small fee. Great for the kids.
DAY 90 - Tue Apr 21
Cool night, sunny morning with hi's in the mid 70's today. The news says that Phoenix will hit 102 today -- glad we're not there!!! Hooked up and rolling to the Canyon by 9AM, and managed to find a place to park the rig right by the train station. The views were spectactular, and it wasn't too crowded with people. We had a nice walk around the El Tovar Hotel. We stayed there about 20 years ago when our friends got married at Yaki Point at the Canyon. We took the Desert View Scenic Drive out of the Canyon, stopping at a few overlooks - absolutely breath-taking views!!! The weather was perfect for a visit to the Grand Canyon. We made a quick stop at Cameron's Trading Post, then headed south to Flagstaff and on to Winslow. We stopped for a bite at Bojo's Pub, right near the famous corner. The building burned down, but the town managed to save the wall with the mural "Standin' on the Corner". We got back on I-40, and landed in Gallup NM for the night. We stayed at the KOA Kampground there, and were not disappointed.
DAY 91 - Wed Apr 22
Cool night, cool morning, only 30deg ! !
Rolling by 9:30, back on I-40 towards Albequerque NM. We continued along Old Rte 66 to Grants NM, stopping to eat at First Street Cafe -- good food.
When we got to Albequerque, we took Rte 66 through town, and saw many old neon signs and lots of traffic. We continued again on I-40 to Tucumcari NM, stopping for the night at the Cactus RV Park there. ($20 for the night, but they don't have showers!!)
We saw two vintage Airstreams today on I-40, both heading West. Sorry no pics.
