GOOD NEWS! ! All is good with the trailer. Hubby fixed EVERYTHING ! ! I am SO PROUD OF HIM! ! He fixed the peeeled banana peel, and the propane hookup...All is good and we even have hot water ! !
DAY 44 = Through our travels, we took a little detour to Wellborn TX to the ONLY NY DINER in Texas. This 1940's era diner was saved from demolition through an ebay purchase and was moved from NY to TX, at a cost of 5 times the purchase price of the diner. What a treasure to save.
The food was very good, and the staff was very friendly.......
We rolled on to Bastrop State Park in Bastrop TX to find a beautiful park, with lots of history, and a full service park, complete with sewer hookups. Unbelievable. ($20/nite plus $4 / person / day..not bad, and the showers are hot.
DAY45 - Sat Mar 7
We drove around the area looking for the old Airstreams but couldn't find them. Not sure if they're out of business or not.
We found our way to Smithville, TX where the movie "Hope Floats" was filmed. The main street looked deserted, but there was a band playing Gershwin and blues in the Gazebo at the Railroad Park--very nice. We browsed thru a few of the many antique shops in town and had a great lunch of brisquet complete with dessert at Sherry's Kitchen. Yum.
DAY 46 - Sun Mar 8
We took a drive to Austin to firm up a place to stay. We checked out Pecan Grove first, because everyone says that that's the place to stay ! !
We stopped in and they gave us a place for tomorrow. We`re soooo excited.
DAY 47 - Mon Mar 9
Very warm night, muggy morning. Hooked up and rolling by 10AM. We hit Austin about 11:00AM.and rolled into Pecan Grove..... only to find out that the guy we set up with yesterday, didn`t let the regular guy know that we were coming ! ! To make a long story, short, we`re here for nine days and the SXSW starts this weekend! ! Oh yeah, we`re here for $10 a night!!
Oh, yeah, forgot to tell you that we bought a new' 'old ' flamingo.... in Smithville TX..looked lonely.... needs to have a home at our Spartanette at home.
