DAY 55 - Tue Mar 17
Happy St. Patrick's Day! !
Cool, sunny morning, hi's in the 70's today. Up and rolling by 10AM, heading to Safford AZ. We had an uneventful trip across I-10, then north on US 191 to Roper State Park, just outside Safford. We were told when we got there that they were full, so we decided to pay for a day pass, and at least enjoy the natural hot spring tub there. While we were soaking, a ranger came by and let us know that a site had just opened up and we had better hurry and put our trailer there if we wanted it. We could only have it for one night, but that was okay with us! ! The park is absolutely beautiful with a large lake, well-known for it's fishing, and of course the hot tub.
DAY 56 - Wed Mar 18
Another beautiful morning, after a cool night -- heard coyotes running and howling and yelping out behind the trailer through the night.
Up and rolling again by 10AM, heading towards Phoenix. The drive took us through beautiful rocky, curving roads on US 70 West. We reached Phoenix about 2:30PM, after stopping for lunch in Globe, where the desert was at it's bloom peak. Very beautiful.
We saw an old Airstream at the side of the road in Superior, and stopped and took a few pics. The vin tag indicates that it is a 56, although not sure of the model. It appeared that the owner was working on the inside, as most of it was gutted out. We poked around until our Airforums friend, Flyfisher, was done work, and then we set up at his place, right next to his 59 Tradewind. Quite the differences in the two units, as one was made in California, and the other in Ohio. Flyfisher and his wife and daughter were most gracious and hospitable to us. Our most sincere thanks to them for putting us up for the night. We had a great visit and learned more about our trailer again. Flyfisher really knows his stuff about Airstreams! !
DAY 57 - Thu Mar 19
Beautiful morning, with hi's in the 90's! !
After more trailer comparing, we decided to head out to Bullhead City, to visit family there. The drive to Kingman was very nice, and we decided to spend the night at the Zuni Village RV Park in Kingman. The park is very nice with wonderful showers, full hookup, including cable for only $26/night. The lady at the counter didn't bat an eye when we told her the year of our trailer.
Once we were set up, we went into Kingman for dinner at the Dambar and Steakhouse. It has changed for the better since we were there last, and the food was as usual great.
DAY 58 - Fri Mar 20
Another sunny, warm morning, with hi's in the mid 80's. We were rolling by 10AM to Bullhead City. As we pulled onto our Aunt's street, there she was just turning the corner in her car. She had never seen our trailer, but she said she just KNEW it was us! ! We got settled in the driveway at her beautiful place, and after catching up on all the news, we went over to Laughlin NV to the AVI casino for their dinner buffet. Great meal, great casino, although the slots were not very kind to us.
