DAY 25 - Sat Aug 21 2010
Very cool morning and overcast, but the sun came out about noon time. Our friend came by in the morning and invited us to dinner at his place. We're bringing the wine.
We took a drive to White Rock along the beautiful beach and promenade. We stopped for lunch at Moby Dick's Fish & Chips. The menu is now part of hubby's collection. We drove on past all the beautiful waterfront homes to Crescent Beach -- another gorgeous beach with awesome homes.
We stopped at Safeway for groceries, then back to the trailer to put everything away.
We went to our friends' place for dinner -- raw halibut in lime juice (??), jalapenos with cream cheese and barbequed ribs and chicken and corn on the cob. All very good, and yes I even tried the halibut. We had chocolate cheesecake with raspberries for dessert, and was it good ! !
It was an early night and we were home by 10.
DAY 26 - Sun Aug 22 2010
Cool and overcast in the morning, with a little drizzle, and then the sun came out. We decided to take a drive to Whistler, but as we were heading to the mountains, the sky got darker and darker and then it started to rain. We decided to go to the Cloverdale Flea Market instead, and bought a few things there -- some things for the gradbabies, and new cushions for Papa. We stopped for a few more groceries and then back to camp. We barbequed steaks, rice and corn for dinner. Early to bed.
DAY 27 - Mon Aug 23 2010
Cool morning, and we decided to do our housecleaning (or is it trailer de-trashing??), inside and outside, and laundry before we make our run for the border tomorrow.
We barbequed pork chops and canned beans for dinner.
DAY 28 - Tue Aug 24 2010
Bright morning, and we were packed and rolling by 9:30AM, heading for the border at Aldergrove BC. We got to the border by 11AM, and got pulled in at customs for too many smokes and too many cases of beer. Surprise. The officer was very nice and realized we were just dumb tourists, and charged us very little to bring what we had bought at the Duty Free.
Once through the border, we followed WA539 until it hooked up to the I-5. We followed I-5 to Olympia through all the crazy traffic, where we cut over to US101. We followed the coast until we stopped in Astoria OR around 7PM. We opted for the Seaside KOA, and were not surprised at their very high rate for the night. Well, maybe we were surprised a little, but it was a very nice park with full hookup except cable and very clean showers. We picked up fried chicken and 'tater wedges for dinner.
Day 29 - Wed Aug 25 2010
Another cool morning, and we were rolling by 10AM. We stopped just up the road in Seaside for breakfast and a walk around to the ocean. It was very foggy, but also very beautiful. There were many little interesting shops that we browsed through and even an indoor carousel. Very pretty.
After breakfast and the Pig -N Pancake House, we continued south along the coast -- lots of ups and downs, and twists and turns. We passed through many beautiful little beach towns with lots of pirate stuff. We bought a couple things.
We stopped for the night at Seal Rocks RV Cove -- nice little park right on the ocean -- $30 with full hookup with cable. We took a walk to the beach but it was very fogged in. The tide was out and there were many tidepools and seagulls. We watched as the tide started to come in and watched the waves crash on the huge rocks out in the water.
We walked back to the trailer and finished the spaghetti sauce we started earlier, and had dinner and bed.
DAY 30 - Thu Aug 26 2010
Another cool damp morning, no rain but the fog from the ocean is very heavy. Packed up and rolling by 9:30AM. We drove to Florence OR, where we just had to stop at Bliss' Hot Rod Grill. There were vintage Chevy's stuck in the roof of the building -- all 1952 thru 1960 -- very cool, even two cars inside used as booths for dining. The food was also very good.
We had an Airstream sighting just north of Gold Beach OR, a newer model with a black cover on the front. We all flashed and waved like crazy.
We stopped in Gold Beach for groceries and carried on to California. We had to stop for inspection at the state line, and since we only had bananas, we were ok to go. We continued on to Crescent City CA where we talked to a local and he directed us to a park on the ocean. We found Shoreline RV Park right on the ocean, and we got a spot just steps from the water's edge. Only $30 for full hookup with cable and wifi. We booked for 2 nights, and had salad and leftover chicken for dinner.
Day 31 - Fri Aug 27
Another cool morning, but bright and sunny and not as windy as yesterday. Predicting hi's in the 60's today. Great.
After showers (hot and lots of pressure and very clean), we took a drive along the scenic route in Crescent City. There was a tsunami here in 1964 and that explained the many 'new' buildings in town. We washed the truck and stopped at Sylvia's Attic where we met Sylvia and browsed through her lovely store.
We drove by the Boat Basin and saw all the fishing boats and even some seals trying to sun themselves on the floating docks. We went back to the trailer for scallops and shrimp for dinner, tv and bed.
