DAY 18 - Sat Aug 14
Warm and sunny in the morning with predicted temps in the 90's today. The family made us a great breakfast -- bacon and eggs on an English muffin -- very good. We took the truck to the carwash for a bath, and stopped by another old friend's place in Qualicum Beach. They have the biggest and most unique picnic table we had every seen !!When we got back to house, an old high school friend and his wife came by for dinner. They left early, and the rest of us headed down to the Parksville Community Park to see a Tina Turner impersonator. We watched her for a few minutes, then walked to the beach to see the Sand Sculptures. No pictures -- forgot the camera. This was the last weekend for the sculptures -- it had been on display for about a month.
DAY 19 - Sun Aug 15
Warm & sunny again. We were served breakfast again, this time tomato and cheese sandwiches. Very good again. We all took a drive to Englishman Falls -- very pretty and lots of people there, some swimming above the falls. We then went on to Coombs to see the goats on the roof at the market and many shops there. It was extremely busy there, lots of vehicles and people. We stopped by a farm market for corn, and then on to our high-school friend's for dinner -- ribs, corn on the cob, potato salad, crab dip (very yummy), and a watermelon/tomato salad. I had never had that before and it was very very good. Back 'home' and bed.
DAY 20 - Mon Aug 16 2010
Already warm in the morning when we got up. We took another drive to Coombs for a couple of things we SHOULD have bought yesterday and lunch. When we got back to the house, hubby went back to Parksville park to get some pictures of the Sand Sculptures before they knocked them down. Wouldn't you know it?? He was too late -- the trucks were already there and had already knocked them all down and were carting the sand away. Very sad.
Later we had 'drunk chicken' for dinner.
DAY 21 - Tues Aug 17 2010
Warm and sunny again. We drove to Nanaimo to Costco and the dollar store. We had Taco Bell for lunch then back 'home'. We took a drive in the afternoon and stopped the old high-school friend's place for a little bit. Back 'home' for steak and prawns and early to bed.
DAY 22 - Wed Aug 18 2010
Warm and sunny again. Hubby and his brother took our truck to get the brakes and muffler checked out. The brakes are ok, but the muffler will need repair when we got back home. There is a small hole somewhere, but the mechanic said it should be ok. We'll see.
We took another drive to Qualicum to check out the thrift stores, and also back to Coombs to check out the ones there that we missed. We bought a set of vintage travel stickers -- perfect for the door of our 'baby'.
Back at the house, sister-in-law and I had pedicures. We had a girl come to the house. It was great! While we were being pampered, brother-in-law barbequed a turkey and his special potatoes. Very good. Full bellies made it an early night.
DAY 23 - Aug 19 2010
A little cooler in the morning. Laundry day again today -- hung everything on the clothesline.
We took a drive to Cathedral Grove, where the trees are huge, huge cedars and Douglas Fir. Amazing.
We stopped by a couple of resale shops and bought a brand new Coleman cooler, a couple of wooden sailfish, and a wooden dolphin. Yup, we needed more of those at home. We had turkey sandwiches for lunch. We hung out in the afternoon until it was time to go meet friends at Fish Tales Restaurant in Qualicum Beach. We sat outside in the beautiful garden surrounded by many huge hydrangea plants in full bloom. Beautiful. Got a picture of hubby with the 3000 lb. cedar 'whale' out front. Great dinner and then home to bed.
