1959 tradewind on the road

DAY 12 - Sun Aug 8 2010
Cool, overcast morning with drizzle on and off. We had a great breakfast -- bacon on the barbie, scrambled eggs, homefries, toast and coffee. If the food keeps up like this, we're going to gain lots and lots of weight, and neither one of us needs to do that!!!
The weather cleared up in the afternoon, and it was sunny and warm. We went out to dinner in Calgary at a place called China Rose. They had a great buffet with delicious food. Full, and early to bed

DAY 13 - Mon Aug 9 2010
Cold morning following a cold night, but a bright and sunny morning. Packed and away by 8:30AM. As we were heading south on AB22 towards the Crows Nest Pass, we spotted an Airstream ahead of us. We were heading toward Nelson BC to catch up with a friend there. We were unable to take the Kootenay Lake ferry because the road was closed for some reason. It might have been closed because of the forest fires in the area. We didn't see any fires, though. We were forced to take "the high road" to Nelson, which is really the lower road on the map. The "high" refers to the elevation of the road. What a road!!! Then it started to rain a little, then it was getting dark a little. Then we were lost. The directions we had to our friend's place was from the Kootenay Lake ferry and so we misunderstood and went the wrong way for a long time on the right road. We found ourselves at the top end of Kootenay Lake and began again from there. Well, after a phone call home, we found our friend's place. We settled in for the night, watched a DVD and went to bed. A stinky skunk stunk up the place through the night.

4. Banner from a benefit motorcycle run back in Ontario delivered by us to our friend in Nelson. The run was held in his daughter's memory for the Heart Defects Society.
