THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE DETAILED INFO. NO DRAIN HOLES IN THE ENCASING PART LIKELY IS THE CAUSE OF THE HORRIBLE STINK I SMELL, AND WE DON'T HAVE MOLD. JUST TRAPPED WATER AND SKIN CELLS AND MUCK ALL RETRACTED AND UNABLE TO DRY. I WILL BE EXTRA "DRYING" OF THIS DOOR. JENAETTE

Put this in to replace my sagging glass door and loved it at first. then the bottom rail paint started to bubble. Now I am seeing the same thing on the bottom of the roller housing.
First - I guess I thought that the metal parts would have been powder coated rather than painted. Next - I realised that the roller housing did not have any drain hole at the bottom... for water which was squeezed off the roller to exit. These doors can be hung to open from right to left OR from left to right so there should be some kind of drain hole at both ends. There is also a plastic endcap on both ends of the roller, with raw metal under it The top and bottom rails have to be cut to the width of the door minus the allowances for the roller and lock side pieces... more raw metal to.allow water intrusion and cause paint to bubble. If you want to use one of these, drill drain holes in the top and bottom of the roller housing, pry off the plastic endcaps and use some good protectant sealer on all the raw metal. Ditto for.both ends of the top and bottom bars. I don't always pull the shower door to the closed position when finished and frankly I rarely squeegee down the shower and dry the rolled out curtain after showering, and I am a full timer. That may have made the damage show up faster. I still like the way this roller does not take any hall space or clash with the WC door. Will call or email the company tomorrow to see if I can get matching paint for repair. For all others, this can be an ounce of prevention. KISS MOMENT: Of course a shower rod and curtain and some good door trim would work too, and a new curtain whenever the whim hits is a very economical and attractive solution too. Paula, once again appreciating the benefits of low-tech solutions.[emoji57] |
