Day 6 - August 13

Posted 08-16-2008 at 09:58 PM by dpandorf

Maybe we should have looked at the day of the week on the calendar to have prepared ourselves for the day.

We rounded everybody up and headed to Mount Rushmore for an afternoon visit. (Its an 8 mile drive from the campground.)

The weather was gorgeous initially but as we left the park you could see things a brewing in the sky. Of course I had the hair brained idea of going the long way home via the Needles drive.

Well all, you know what broke out on the way home. More hail! I was able to find a state park picnic area turnoff and get under some huge pine trees to help soften the blow.

After the rain subsided we got back on the road and as we got closer to the campground the amount of hail left on the ground was like an inch of snow.

The temperature had dropped from the high 70s to the mid 40s in minutes.

When we arrived back to the campground it was even worse. The owner of the SOB parked across from us was already on his roof speed taping on of his fan covers.

We found a leak on the floor below our middle skylight.

Looks like I'll be needing a taller ladder and some more repairman practice.

I've attached some photos from the day though:
