Finally pulled the trigger...

Posted 09-29-2015 at 09:25 AM by RodNAtl

... today has to be one of the most exciting days I can think of. Today, my partner and I purchased our very first Airstream. It's a 2013 19' International Signature.

All of my life I have been fascinated with Airstreams, from building birdhouses, to doing research about them. Thinking that I would never get one I began to settle with looking at other options. However, my father just recently passed away and prior to passing he and I talked about life and enjoying the moments.

Crunching the numbers, and being a little more frugal with our day to day spending, I soon realized that we could manage. I did the ole "Suze Orman" test and got the "approved".

After weeks of searching and lots of dumb questions and countess research we landed on one.

Can't be any happier. We head on a road trip to New Jersey (Colonial RV) to pick it up in a few weeks...and will do our first camping on the way back home to Atlanta.

Congratulations! I can understand your excitement, as I just closed on a 2013 Flying Cloud 19 this past week! Picking it up in Eugene, Oregon in 2 weeks and doing our first trip on the Oregon Coast before bring her home to the mountains of Utah.

I went back and forth trying to justify it as well, but then finally just went for it...but at least tried to make it a bit more digestible by going used...and wound up with a barely used unit that was stored indoors. I am at the point of my life where I finally said, "If not now...when?"

    Enjoy!

Congratulations back to you Bud. Be sure to let me know how it goes. We are doing a 5 day trip back down through Virginia / Tennessee via Blue Ridge, Appalachian Mtns. along I81.

I've already got the overnight camp spots picked out so now just going through random checklist of things that I know we will we need while keeping the list as minimal as possible until we actually start doing some road trips and figure out exactly what we need don't need given this is our first trailer.

Same deal here! Bought a used Tundra to tow with, installed hitch, wiring and brake controller, so I'm ready to go there. Now just thinking of the must-haves to take for the trip. Have a stainless steel stovetop coffee percolator on the way, that's important :-) Am going to keep it to a minimum and develop the list of needs along the way. Going to take my tent camping container which has all the kitchen and random stuff for tent camping, and treat the AS like an aluminum tent for the first week...and figure it all out from there. Exciting though!

I'm trying to avoid reading so much now on the forums, as some of the stuff is terrifying and overwhelming. I did break down today and order an electrical circuit tester and protector, after reading how they are relatively cheap insurance to protect the trailer and electrical components from poor RV Park wiring, low voltage, power surges, etc. Plug it in and it cycles through and tests the polarity, voltage, looks for ground faults, etc., and keeps you protected while plugged in. Just learned about all that today. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003AL23TC

I moved out here to Park City Utah from ATL area (Lake Lanier) ten years ago. Sound like a great trip you have mapped out.

Yes let's keep in touch and share the experience and tips, both on the same timeline and similar rigs!

Have a blast and travel safe!
