DIY Drapes - Part 8

The project is now complete and here are some photos of the results.
Given my minimal sewing experience, I was really hesitant to even start this project but I am glad I did.
A while back I got a quote for a professionally made set of drapes for a little over $700. The set I made cost under $300 in materials. Well worth the two weeks of spare time it took me to complete.
I'd say the toughest part was all the initial planning and figuring out how much material I would need and how the panels would be made. Once I made the first few panels though, and got that walking foot, it was really just a matter of putting in the time to get it done.
If you want a set of original style replacement drapes and know how to run a sewing machine, you should consider making your own.

I have done this for our Motorhome. After paying several hundred for curtains for our trailer, making our own was the best option for us. It was easy to do. Take down the old ones, using a seam ripper, we took them apart and marked the parts and measured everything. Got the fabric and liner we wanted and using the old curtains, measured and cut the new material.
Then we sewed the new ones together. The results were better than expected. And the cost savings were not too bad also.Posted 05-12-2012 at 08:03 AM by Buttercup -

We are new to airstreams, just bought a 1969 Overlander in very good shape, but no curtains. I have been searching for info the past 2 weeks and your blog gave me all the info I have been needing. I have pics of slides that I'll need but can not find the exact ones. Were you able to find substitute slides?
Did you use drapery pleating tape or did you sew the pleats into material? I have a good bit of experience in sewing so I am not afraid of the project, just can not find all the supplies.Would appreciate any help, have searched all the vintage sites and gotten some good ideas but not everything I need. Many thanks for your help if you have time to share it with me. LPosted 02-02-2014 at 06:11 PM by New2Airs -
